To people who support speed cameras?
|
I personally think speed cameras are just another way for the government to monitor you when they are not around. And it's also another way for them to make money off of you when you are not around.
My county has recently installed 38 new speed cameras, and boy are they making money off of the people.
Anywho, some of the speed cameras are in an area where it is very difficult not to speed. One in particular is at the very bottom of a steep hill. The speed limit going down the hill is 35 miles an hour and then QUICKLY changes to 25 miles an hour right at the bottom of the hill about 30 feet before the speed camera.
Do you guys support speed cameras like this?
BTW- I have NEVER once been pulled over for speeding or been hit by a speed camera. I just think its unfair to those who do get hit by them. You used to have to get pulled over by a police officer for a ticket, but not anymore.
BTW- I am not opposed to speed cameras in school zones.

I am opposed to speed cameras. In court you have the right to face your accuser. The camera can not appear in court. |

Speed cameras free up cops to go after other criminals. |

Speed cameras, i.e. Radar activated photographs, of your cars license plate, violating the speed limit, are nothing more than a revenue for the local Gov. that uses them. They say that they are promoting safety but they only want the $$ from the fines!! I say that if a cop doesn't catch you then it didn't happen. |

I don't think speed traps are ethical. Its just another way for the government to get money. However, I think speed cameras are a good idea because they free up police for other things. They also take police out of potentially dangerous situations. Pulling people over is always risky because you don't know who the guy is, plus police officers can get hit on the side of the road. |

hi there!
|
you know, you don have to pay the ticket in az. unless it is personally served to you, they had a big thing about it on the news and az. is the only state which they are required to personally serve you and i know alot of people who get those tickets in the mail and just trash them and after 120 days it was dimissed. I have gotten one for red light and went to traffic school, that was before i knew about having to be served. We also have them everywhere around where i live and no i dont support them. Do you happen to live in az.? |

Speed cameras are a joke. I agree with you. If you get a speeding ticket it should be given to YOU. Not received in your mailbox 3 days later. I received a speeding ticket in the mail 3 DAY LATER for going 37 in a 35 by one of those speed cameras. They are trying to take more money from the people. |

How is it unfair? Speeding is speeding. Caught by one of us or a camera, you are still in the wrong. |

I dont mind them in school zones or at stop light other wise I thinks in a invasion of privacy. I pay taxes for my tag, fuel, the roads, the police, the fire fighters, and emts. If I crash my vehicle into a rail or off the road at high speeds then my tax dollars support those whom will rescue me, hopefuly, from a burning vehicle.
I myself and a fire fighter and I have to drive at high speeds at times when we have incidents this would tag me off the bat. Also know alot of police whom drive the speed limit I think not. Also I know those whom would be there for me in such an incident and guess what they all speed as well.
I do see alot of speed related crashes but most of those are due to negligance of the drivers part not accounting for the weather, road conditions and driving under the infulance of either drugs or alcohol. Somthing I thing is wrong and stupid on the later part and should be punished to the full extent of the law. |

Well, what difference does it make if you're pulled over by a cop or issued a ticket by a camera? Speeding is speeding. "Area where it is very difficult not to speed" is no excuse.
Also, the cameras are cheaper than hiring more police officers, so the government is actually saving your tax money by doing this, and not to mention enforcing the law better as well. |

I don't think the government is trying to watch you while they're not around. That's a little ludicrous. Perhaps they're only putting these speed cameras up in areas with a high speed related accident rate. Things like that also drum up money for the local budget. There's probably not a whole lot you can do about it, except be careful not to speed. Just make sure that if you get caught, you're flipping them off the whole time. |

i think that you can look at this both ways. yeah, it seems a little unfair at some places they place them, i.e. at the bottom of a hill (there is one like that i used to go down all the time in whittier). but, is the speed camera not doing its job? once you get hit by it, you're not going to speed there again; therefore the camera does work as a deterrent. i think they are good, because a lot of accidents/deaths could be prevented by people slowing down =P |

Pay attention and its not a problem. I think maybe it will make people become better drivers if they know they're being watched. |

Your car is equipped with brakes which SHOULD operate well. If you're a competent driver...there is virtually NO situation where you CAN'T brake or slow down.
Speed cameras are a great idea to stop people from breaking the law just because there's no human around to catch them doing it. |

Their unconstitutional.... You have the right by law to face you accuser in a court of law..... A camera cannot appear in court..... Many city's have discontinued their speed camera programs because of this.... If you get a ticket..... Fight it... You'll win....
Edit.... Keep the thumbs down coming.... It's true... Look it up.... Some people are so ignorant........... |

speed cameras are for cops who are too lazy to do their job. |

Whether you agree or not - it's here and here to stay.
How can you argue if it is there to save lives?
I realize that the more they write - the more they make. Especially since it requires no court pay and an outside company is doing it and skimming or taking tipping fees. And little work is done by the municipality.
The only disagreement i have with it (other than a lack of common sense in it's deployment or use) is that it takes away the punishment element from the court and the assessment of points from the Secretary of States Office or DMV. You could get a hundred of these tickets without license suspension. |

No I don't support any speed camera... I think its disgusting and like you say - a way to get even more money out of us. |

I think speed cameras are an awesome idea for any major city, also cameras for people who pass red lights. it lifts a bit of the burden off of the local police force. but they should be investigated just in case they tag a cop or other local force. |
