Can a person in Illinois be issued a traffic ticket for backing into another car in a private parking lot? I'm hearing many different answers.

i agree with steven. if the public has access to the road or parking lot, traffic laws can be enforced. |

In my state, motor vehicle laws apply 'on public roads or property, and private roads or property used by the public to drive or park'. Most likely the parking lot would qualify as 'used by the public to drive or park'.
Even if you are not cited, you DO have civil liability for damages. |

Not only in Illinois,but in every single State,due to the fact of a resulting
property damage,could also be attached to :
Careless Driving.
Reckless Driving.
Violation of Right of Way.
Speeding.
Destruction of Private Property with Intent,etc ,etc.
as they may apply,as of The Officer Discretion.Good Luck. |

No, it is a civil issue. You can be cited for reckless operation on private property, but a simple backing into another would not meet the criteria. |
