Yesterday, my husband was pulled over by a police officer. He told him that he pulled him over for making a U Turn onto oncoming traffic..it was 12:10 am, he was picking me up from work. He says the cop was the only person in the lane and was far from the yellow light. There was no sign saying no U Turns.
Unfortunately, my husband was in a rush to pick me up and forgot his wallet. Our tag had just been renewed earlier that day and I had the registration in my bag, so it wasn't looking good. About 10 minutes after sitting in his car the cop came out and gave my husband a ticket for not having his license and for not wearing his seatbelt. This is completely untrue because our car beeps incessantly if we don't wear our seat belts.
I'm definitely wanting to take this to court. Not wearing a seatbelt is about $129, nonmoving violation. Was getting pulled over in the first place wrong? He gave us a warning leading us to think he knew he had no legal standing. He was clearly a new cop. I wanted to know that if we didn't get a ticket for his initial reason for pulling us over, can we get the rest dismissed?
