Go to court, and just explain the situation. Do not mention previous speeding tickets unless asked.

When you go to court to fight this unruly ticket, I would also consider asking to see the calibration records for his individual radar gun used (supposedly) to clock you at 70 in a 55. If what you say is true, I'm very sorry to hear that and it's those police officer's that give the rest a bad name.

Speed guns operate using Doppler radar. Doppler is sent out in waves, and on the display (if there are 2 or more cars in a close vicinity) the speed will alternate between the cars. Also, when the officer locks the speed in he or she is technically supposed to leave the speed on the display until the traffic stop is completed. If the person that he or she pulled over asks to see the speed then he or she is required to show it to you. If the officer refuses, then that is all the more ammo that you have in court. You also might want to get your speedometer calibrated at a local auto shop. Usually if it is off by more than 5mph the judge will dismiss the case. Radar guns are supposed to be calibrated at the beginning of the shift and they are also supposed to be calibrated after every traffic stop that it was used to initiate. So, challenge the calibration record, and if he can't produce it, the judge may throw yours and everyone else's cases that that radar gun was used in that day. And contrary to prior answers, officers do show up to court, and surprisingly, the judge is just as hard on the officer as he is the accused party. Good luck Oh, radar detectors are illegal in D.C. and Virginia (as far as I know)

If you're in Britain just complain about it to a Magistrate's Court. Usually the police will drop the charge as it would be more expensive to pursue a court case.

If you had said you had your cruise set at 60-65mph, I'd have given you the benefit of the doubt. I don't believe that anyone but an 80 yr old woman would set their cruise at 55. People don't get radar detectors so that they can go 55.

Just go to court and tell it to the judge, he might rule in your favor. Also the cop might not show up. A far as "complaining" on the officer, that will not ch age the ticket. Complainant on the officer doing his job will get you no where.

IF I were you I would find a cop that you know very well and have him clock you and see what his radar says, and then have him go to court with you and have him tell what he clocked you at, and while he's clocking you see hope you can fight this ticket, as we all know sometimes the police radar gun is off at times or your speed omentor is slightly off if he can't get a pic of his radar reading while he's clocking you, and get you a passenger and have them get a pic of your speedomenter. i

I went to court over a similar situation like this once and the judge sided with me and I didn't have to pay anything. Chances are the cop won't even show up anyway so the judge won't get to hear their side of it. Furthermore you should at least try to go fight it, because chances are if they don't let you go free they will at least reduce the fee.

I don't know but I thought that you werent allowed to have radar detectors, at least in NY. I've seen people hide them when they get pulled over. Besides that, you should definitely contest the ticket. I think they have to have some type of record of clocking your speed.

Number one, go to the police station and file a complaint against the officer. They will tell you everything under the sun to make you not want to do it, but do it anyway. They will be conviencing though, i forewarn you. They will tell you that you should just take care of that in court. But you need to put on this cops record that he makes mistakes. This will be followed up on via their internal affairs dept. And it will put a black mark on the cops record.

Second, you can go to court to file a not guilty plea. Then you will be given another court date to plead your case. If you live in a city, they will have to prove that you were in fact speeding before they can find you guilty. This is very hard for them to do. But, if you live in a country area, the cop will be right and you will be wrong. the law rarely will help you in the sticks. You can ask them if the radar gun has been tested lately, and the error rate. ( this is always better to do with an attorney, but this is up to you, and your financial situation)

Third, I had this same kind of thing happen to me. I pulled away from a stoplight at a 4 way intersection with a cop accross from me. I owned a 95 dodge neon. I pulled away from the light once it turned green and made a left. The cop took off to pull me over to tell me that I was doing 55mph in a 30 in 2 seconds from the time that I started pulling away from the stoplight. #1 I saw the cop there the whole time, and was not speeding @ all. #2 My car then could not go 0 to 55 in two seconds. I think he must have caught the tire rotation speed rather than my MPH speed. But the only way that the cop stopped yelling at me when I kept telling him he was wrong, and didn't write me a ticket was because I knew someone working dispatch at the time and they told the cop I was in good with them because I always hooked them up when I worked at a fast food resturant then. . But you can always say that there were other cars around you at the time of the ticket, and that they were going faster than you. make them prove that it was you on their radar. It only takes them 1cm to move their hand radar gun to another car at the right angle.

Obviously you need a lawyer and they need to check the last time the detector was calibrated. Most police detectors leave a fingerprint on when it is turned on and off, have then check that.

Ah ha another idiot with a radar detector. You are not the first or the last person this Officer, or any other Officer, will catch with a radar detector.

There are many radars on the market that utilize different bands, measuring devices etc...

The current radar we have we can put in a passive mode. It will not indicate you have been locked in until it's to late. Time and time again I engage it seconds before car gets in view before he can make out my patrol car and amazingly enough the vehicle rapidly de-accelerates.

I have no doubt if the Officer issued you a citation you were speeding as he indicating. If you want to contest it go ahead. Despite what other fools tell you Officers do show up for traffic court and you will have to fight the ticket. The burden of proof is on the State so if you got something to shoot down their evidence then fight it, otherwise pay the ticket.

As an Deputy if you asked me to turn on my radar to determine if it would set yours off I would tell you to pack sand. I have no legal requirement and besides the point is moot. I can adjust range etc.. and it's not uncommon for the radar to exceed that of a detector alert.

Learn to slow down and deal with the repercussions.
