I think they should be tried as adults in a federal court (felony charges).
My understanding is that they all have been charged with felony battery and false imprisonment (which they could try to push to a felony charge but it's a stretch, since there was premeditation though it is plausible).
I really hope the justice system chooses this group of young people to set an example for any other teenagers who think this sort of behavior is acceptable in our country. While I am a proponent of grace and mercy I personally feel that whatever punishments can be awarded to these foolish teens will be suitable and I have faith that our justice system will indeed, apply justice.
I also hope that this will deter other teens from (continually) following this horrific trend.
It is not probable that the defendants will receive life sentences. None of them currently have criminal records (that I am aware of), most importantly none have a history of felony offenses. Yes, there is a probability of jail time which I think is definitely sufficient in this situation but life is extreme since this is a first offense for them all. That is how the judicial system works.
If they are found guilty of the felonies these charges are with them for life- permanent records. This will have a huge impact on their futures: College, jobs, adoption of children, being able to serve on a jury or Grand Jury, etc.
Hopefully this will encourage people to THINK before anyone pulls a stunt like this again. |

You moron. If it was your child that was held down and beaten nearly to death by 8 over-indulged, spoiled brats, you wouldn't be singing that over-the-top BS.
These criminals should be held accountable and sentenced to the maximum penalty the judge can deliver. In addition, each of their parents and/or guardians should be held accountable and have to serve time and provide financial compensation.
That will send a message to these absentee parents who think that it's A-OK for their prissy, spoiled teenagers to play on Myspace and watch My Super Sweet 16 on MTV all friggin' day. May they rot in hell. |

I think they should serve at least 25 to 30 years, those girls thought it was cute to beat that girl up like that, If I was that girl I would've run to the kitchen and grab a butcher knife and told them "If anyone of you touch me again, some body is going to be carried out of here in a body bag". |

I heard that they might be charged with attempted murder and kidnapping, which in my opinion is the right punishment |

They should receive the MAXIMUM punishment allowable for each crime they are convicted of. No time served or suspended...the MAX for EACH conviction! |

They sould get what anyone else would get for this crime. This is elevated aggravated assault and is punishable for up to five years with a six month mandatory minimum. They should not be punished more or less based on the media coverage. |

10 years for the beating and another 5 for criminal stupidity for being dumb enough to video tape themselves committing a crime. |

I am disgusted by the actions of these kids, it was premeditated to be sure. Furthermore, the girl they beat up on has loss of hearing and loss of sight among other things. I was glad to hear that they will be prosecuting these girls as ADULTS. I am sorry people do not feel they should be prosecuted..............I will be looking for the maximum penalty that the judge can dish out. These types of actions against others are just unbelievable.........they knew what they were doing, they did it, now they need to be punished. |

they should not be sent to life but they should be in jail because that is over the top life! |

I don't believe they will get life, but if you do the crime got to do the time. I think they should get a minimum of 25 years each. It needs to be very clear that assaulting a person like they did is completely unacceptable. |

I think life is a little extreme, but I would like to see them get at least 8 years. The entire thing was premeditated, it's not as if it just happened without forethought and malice. |

The liberals will want to turn'em loose, But they should make an example of these punks. This is getting to be an every day happening, when five or six of these little punks beat someones kid to death the liberals will be screaming, why wasn't something done. |

If they were black they would already have been tried as adults (jena 6) for attempted murder. Since they look like nice little white girls, the media is saying they will just get a slap on the wrist.
IMO, Everyone of those involved should be in jail til they're late 20s atleast if not 20 to life. Just think how frightened this little girl was for over 30 minutes while these girls held her against her will. Also she was bruised up and the tape was only 2 min. These are the tactics terrorist use and there no reason why these girls should not be considered hardcore criminals!
I'm a grown man who lived in a tough neighborhood and even i was scared for this girl when watching this video. These little spoiled girls need to be brought to justice and any one advocating a slap on the wrist or trying them as a juvenile is totally out of touch with reality and perhaps even a Racist.
Because we all know if they were black or Mexican the cops would've treated as a more serious crime. Instead of some "clicky chicks who got into a myspace feud" |

I am certain they will not get life. I seriously doubt that's even an option. Even if they were to be tried as adults they would not get life. |

i think they should get beat-up themselves and then sentenced to prison.
seriously, they would get charged with aggravated assault and could recieve up to 10 years in prison. |

I wish they would have a chain gang for juveniles. 10- 15 years minimum. |

The lives of eight young people should not be ruined forever because of one mistake, albeit a large one.
The girls should be punished, but they sure as hell should not go to prison for years.
Murderers, rapists, and child molesters get life in prison. People serve 5 years for manslaughter. Not teenagers who beat someone up. Nobody died here. |

that is a little over the top....but yes they could get a life sentence but that wont happen, I'm sure this is most likely a "first offense"...I think 5 years intensive probation would work if the goal is to rehabilitate the teens....I do think the beating was outrageous and I'm glad that they will be tried as adults to send a message to the girls who obviously "just don't get it" if they are to do any jail time it will be no more than a year...which might also do them some good |
