yes, she pushed him a few times which is an assault, he could've done way worse, leg swept her to a face down position, used pepper spray, or even tazed her.. he was already wrestling with her friend and therefore not only did she assault him, she was obstructing justice and her friend was resisting arrest.
Jaywalking isn't the coolest or biggest crime, but it is still a crime, they were walking across one of the busiest roads in seattle and one of the most jay walked.. the police do patrols for jaywalkers all the time there out of concern for public safety, i mean there was a pedestrian bridge nearby, but they chose to jaywalk.. also, had this been a black cop, i don't think this story would've been as newsworthy..
the officer was completely justified as in a case like that he has to protect his gun so none of the suspects could've gotten to it. The local news brought in a police instructor, he stated that the officer was very restrained and could've done more.. he also said punching is one technique that is trained to regain/maintain control of a situation and an acceptable response in that specific situation.
the girls chose to fight back, that is on them, so she got a bruise, boohoo, next time think before you act. |

No. That isn't the way police officers are taught to handle those situations. I think he lost his cool as the situation worsened when the second woman stepped into it.
