If you're guilty just pay the ticket, not worth the trouble over a 22 dollar fine. Pretty much the same thing happened to a friend of mine only he made an illegal right turn. Cop was drinking coffee in front of a 7/11 when he drove by.
Dude was standing in front of his house when the cop showed up, cop stopped got out of his car and called him over. Then the deputy put him though the same stuff most of us have been through at one time or another.
My friend was convinced it was because of his long hair, dude was right too, that area is known for it's redneck sheriff department. He got pretty much the same treatment you did. Cop made him empty out his pockets, kept asking him about what kind of dope he's into. Standard stuff.
You can try to fight the ticket you you'll loose. You can file a harassment complaint but nothings gonna happen...except you'll make some new enemies at your local police department. Dude live and learn. |

As long as the officer witnessed you not having your seat belt on, they can ticket you for not wearing it, even if it means following you the short distance to where you lived. You broke the law so you need to learn to take responsibility for your actions.
As far as the other questions he asked, many times those have to do with identifying the right person when ticketing them. When they call in with your information, one thing they are looking for is outstanding warrants so they have to make sure they have the right person.
I worked as a civilian at a large police department in OH where we did record checks on people and many times we had to ask questions like that to make sure we pulled up the right record. I know of one case where a girl came in for a record check and was going to be arrested when she told them it was her twin that they wanted. She volunteered to go down to ID and have them fingerprint her to verify who she was. Her sister had been fingerprinted for writing bad checks when she was arrested but she gave her sister's SS# And DOB along with her sister's name. They soon discovered they had the wrong girl and one thing they verified was what tattoos she had ~ she didn't have any but her sister did and it was listed on her arrest record.
Just remember to obey the laws and you won't have anything to worry about in the future :) |

I guess he had legal rights to give you the ticket, but the other questions were inappropriate, irrelevant, and maybe racial profiling/harassment. I would document everything you can remember he said, and ask a lawyer if you have any grounds to pursue it.
If not, just let it go for your own sake and accept that some people are ignorant. |

Click it or ticket has always been the saying. Its a law and you were not harassed. The questions are standard and go into the notes section on the PD data system officers just to help identify you next time if you ever come into contact with theme. ON the other hand, it was shady how he went out of his way to give you that ticket. |

I would challenge that one. I know if you run a red light then mail your ticket to you but they have a picture as proof, which has your face and license plate info. Going to your house and issuing you a ticket for a violation like that wouldn't hold any water. Definitely challenge that. Cheers :) |

It's pretty much nationwide that the seat belt laws are now in effect. Your cop was apparently needing something to do when he saw you cruise by without yours in place. So he chose to enforce that little law and there you are.
PS: it is pretty stupid to drive without wearing your seat belt. Most real wreaks, you're D.O.A. without it. |

That is total police state. You should have not co operated at all but I would definately fight that one. This is not supposed to be some Fascist Big Brother country and you should not be harassed in your community by those that supposed to serve and protect YOU. This is pure revenue collection. |

nope its the law...the seatbelt thing...and he can knock on your door if he wants to. He couldn't come into your house but you went to him so it was fair game. You did fall into a trap but it was a legal trap. Learn the laws of your city and watch out for crooked cops and officers trying to meet quota for christmas |

I'd say you were being harassed. Get a lawyer. If you can't afford one, go to a college nearby you, and put this on a bulletin board in the hallway. A student studying law will love taking this one on. Doesn't matter what nationality you are, you had a liscense, and insurance, and it's your word against his if you were wearing a seat belt. I'd fight it to the bitter end. Good luck. Ron |

I would write up a statement explaining exactly what happened. Then I would go to the police department that the officer is from and ask them what the normal policy is for tickets and ask them a couple questions without telling them exactly what happened. Then if they tell you the policy is different from what happened to you, I would tell them that you wanted to file a complaint and THEN give them your written statement.
Good Luck |

Sounds like an easy fight, take it to court. You should be able to claim that he cannot see whether you were not wearing your seat belt when you were driving past, particularly if he is distracted with another driver he has already pulled over. If he gave you the ticket while you were sitting in your car and waiting, if the engine was off, it's not a moving violation and the ticket doesn't even apply.
As far as the "harassment" goes, I don't think it was anything personal. I've been grilled a couple times by cops pretty hard, it's not fun. |

NO YOU WEREN'T BEING HARRASSED. ITS THE LAW. HE CAN EVEN COME TO YOUR DOOR. IT HAPPENED TO A WHITE GIRLFRIEND OF MINE SO ITS NOT RACE RELATED. ITS "I TAKE MY JOB WAY TO F@#KING SERIOUS " RELATED. YOU DONT HAVE TO COME TO THE DOOR THOUGH WHEN YOU ARE IN YOUR HOUSE. LIKE IF YOU WERE IN A STORE, HE COULD HAVE WALKED UP ON YOU, BUT HE CANT WALK INSIDE YOUR HOUSE FOR A TRAFFIC VIOLATION. I WOULDNT HAVE OPENED THE DOOR. NOTHING HE COULD HAVE DONE ABOUT THAT.
NOW THE PART THAT IS HARRASSSMENT, TATOOS, WHERE U FROM YOU DIDNT HAVE TO ANSWER THAT.
SHOW UP TO COURT TO FIGHT THE TICKET, THREATEN TO SUE AND SWEETIE THE JUDGE IS EITHER GONNA THROW IT OUT OR THE COP WILL PAY IT TO NOT HAVE A BLEMISH ON HIS RECORD. |

WaaaWaaaWaaaa.......
The officer has up to two years to file a case against a traffic violator.
You were guilty, you got caught. Accept responsibility for your own actions and quit blaming others. Don't try to use the 'race' card.
It's not 'harassment'... it's an officer doing his job and doing it well. |

no they cant...u can take him to court. if the officer does not pull you over on the spot, then he has no proof that you did not have your seat belt on. dont pay the ticket and you can probably also get compensation |

You were being Harassed if your parked in your driveway they can not knock on your door and give you a ticket regardless of reasons unless he checked your plates and theres a warrant out for your arrest |
