If someone breaks into your house, you probably wont even have enough time to call the cops, even if you did, it would take a few minutes for them to come.

If you were living with someone for example, have someone call the cops, while you go see whats going on, its wise to have a knife/baseballbat/gun near your bed. Since its your house, you know how to get around, try to get behind him, and knock the buglar out, worse comes to worse and you dont have a gun and only a knife, slash him in the throat.

If someone breaks into your house you have the right to defend yourself. You won't know what type of weapon, if any, that the robber has.

No one can reasonably predict the outcome of such a situation.

Depending on where you live, if someone breaks into your home, you can usually use deadly force to protect yourself and your property.
But be careful - criminals use deadly force, too, and are often better at it then homeowners.

Just buy a 12 guage, forget the knife. Just make sure the robber is completely in, if not drag him the rest of the way in. Who are the cops gonna believe? You or the dead guy? It's all self defense. Just don't put 5 rounds in him, then the cops might think you over did it a little.

Calling the police would definately be the first thing to do. Even if you know a martial art I would recommend keeping that knife, because an unarmed person, even if he is the greatest martial artist in the world, is at a great disadvantage when it the other person having a knife, or any other kind of weopon for that matter. You may want to get out of the house and get some help, because a knife, while effective, means you will need to get close to the guy, and he could have a sawed off shotgun for all you know. If your intent on staying though, hiding untill he gets close to you should do the trick, just make sure he doesnt see you first..

If you reasonably believe that he is armed, you may defend yourself. If you believe that you are threatened with deadly force, you may respond with equal force, but only to the extent to incapacitate the attacker. Most Jurisdictions have what is known as the "castle doctrine" - this states that you may defend your castle against intruders, not many jurisdictions (if any at all) will require you to retreat, they provide that you may protect your castle (so to speak)

I'm gonna go with the safest answer here.
I think if you do attack the person its best to not try to kill, if you can. If you can just injure them very badly thats probably the best thing to do, because you then can't be charged with murder.
I know it sounds wierd, but there have been a few cases where a person defending themselves against a robber/burglar were charged with murder, so it's best to avoid the situation if you can. That being said, I am sure its not that easy when you are scared and believe your life may be in danger. Just do what you have to do to protect yourself, but try not to take it too far.

it all depends on what the state laws allow you to do.you have the right to use anything you can to repel an attack or if you feel your life is threatened.many breakdowns comes when the person enters the home.some states say you are automatically threatened when some breaks into you home.others do not allow that assumption.this means it all comes down to a personal decision.if someone breaks into my home while i am there then i will feel threatened.i am not asking the person for a application as a burglar.if they do not leave as fast as they came in i hope he has insurance

If he is already in your house and looking at you and not running away then he has a gun or something and you stab him. If you can before he shoots you.Solution: exercise your 2nd amendment right and buy a gun.

Better to use a bat, but if you have to use a knife.....wait until he gets halfway into your house make sure it is not a drunk friend, hurt neighbor, or just some whino who wandered into an unlocked door, then hit him once with the knife. Try to get him somewhere where he won't bleed much (if you have carpet) let him try to run then go for his achilles tendon and slice it. After he gets out of jail, I will bet that he will think twice for the rest of his life before he ever tries to rob anyone again and will have a hell of a limp to show for it..............

well i know martial arts i wouldnt need it but i would do if i didnt was scream like a lil girl and trow pans at him and then wil he is ducking from the pans run up and shank his ***

you should make sure it is someone you dont know and then if its not you should stab them right in the stomach and stop them in there tracks you have to make sure they dont hear you you dont want to be seen then call the police when you get a chance do not tell them who you are or where you are or what you have and another thing how do you have so much time to talk on the computer but not call the police?
but if that is the case you really should get a gun
