IN texas is you lose your job, and cannot afford insurance due to loss of job...you lose your liscence...and in some places in texas they inpound your vehicle and you do not get it back....until all fees are paid and they are not cheap...the local law does what it wants to..and arrest people right and left for no insurance..and no drivers liscense....last week they arrested some one who was 17 for buying ciggarretts here whats worse ..they print every arrest for the week on a daily basis..our local law dog here has there own little organized crime organization going on and is involved in the very crimes they are arresting hard working citizen for...who polices the police...and who do you trust to do anything about it? is it this way in other parts of the country? I belive it is going to get worse. I for one am not worried about the terrorist...I am worried about our politicians...and the abuse of power in the criminal justice system..and lack of ethics....our constitutional right are ?

I think everything you mentioned in your question is completely legal and necessary to maintain order in our country. I don't dispute that there is abuse of power, but arresting someone who is underage for purchasing cigs is not infringing on your rights and neither is impounding a car for someone who fails to carry insurance. These things are necessary to maintain order. If you let one person get by without having insurance on their car, then everyone would try it. I think you have an interesting point in saying that there is abuse in power in some situations, but the details you give to back it up do not support the argument. |

I thought you said "rights" driving a car is not a right and has no protection under the constitution. |

Sounds like they are only arresting people who break the law..Whats wrong with that? Surely you don't want uninsured people on the highway do you? |

We actually kinda like this system. There is this odd fraction of Americans who enjoy driving on safe roads with licensed and insured drivers. |

On a daily basis, I encounter at least 3 drivers without insurance, I don't stop people to check insurance, I stop people mainly for speeding, and I have a 10 mile over personal threshold (meaning everyone speeds, everyone, but I only pull over cars which are speeding at least 10 over the limit) (by the way, you can be pulled over for going 1 over the limit) In TX, officers can issue drivers No Insurance citations and cut them loose...however, how would you like it if your wife was driving down the road after I cut someone loose, then gets in an accident with no insurance driver who just got cut loose with a ticket, then you're going to say, the officer is responsible because he should have impounded this person's vehicle, what are they doing driving without insurance?.....God forbid that would ever happen, but you should remember that we're here for your safety, and in the end we're only doing the right thing, and if you remember from school, the right choice, is not always the most popular choice. |

I am sorry, I am so confused, how exactly do your complaints mean our country is now communist? I have been in two accidents in my entire life and I was so completely happy that
I had insurance and the other driver had insurance. Do you realize the trouble that goes on when there isn't any insurance? The danger? Its horrible! But I do understand the rock and hard place some people can get in when you lose your job and then you have to choose between diapers and car insurance, which one do you think gets paid? There have to be some organizations in TX that can help you out with this....and maybe spending less time on yahoo questions and more time looking for a job, or the definition of communism might help you too... |

First of all, driving is a privliege. Having car insurance is a must because it is to protect our citizens. I was injured by an idiot driver in NY. He did not have full insurance, but at least had something.
It is also a crime for someone under 18 to purchase cigarettes. While it is not a serious crime, that is the law. I doubt that I would waste the time doing it, but I am not there.
You have good reason to worry about this country. Allowing government into this and that has finally caused some big problems. We have less rights than the government. The cause of this is the entitlement attitude that my fellow lazy Americans have. They want this, they want that. They want free health care, free retirement, free schools, and the list goes on and on.
The only way we can get our country back is get a majority of conservative Republicans like Tom Tancredo, JD Hayworth, Jeff Flake, Dana Rohrbacher, and the like. They support and vote for traditional values, less government, support the Fair Tax, will enforce the borders, and other conservative view points.
If you are really concerned with the issues you mentioned, this is where your votes need to go. We need to take out most Democrats and the Republicans that are appeasers like Sen McCain, Sen Chafee (I think he is done in the primary), the 3 CT congressman (Shays, Johnson, and Simmons), the 2 Maine Senators Snowe and Collins |

For starters, let me say that I live in Texas and have a'lot of deep issues with the high-handedness in this state. I don't want to get too political here, but there is a'lot of "Kill them all and let God sort them out" -type individuals in this state.......for the most part, it is ultra-conservative, while I am not. Statements like yours (which, I should point out, this is called "Yahoo answers", so I lost your "Question" somewhere), can sometimes spin on emotion. I have a hard time believing that some of these "negative" events have not touched you personally, and when people encounter law enforcement, they only tend to remember their side of the story, not that the officer(s) behaved professionally or within the bounds of the law. I live near Smith county which is so red, the sky isn't even blue, but most police officers I have encountered are reasonable people.
If you believe that your rights have been violated, you can always mail a letter to the Texas Attorney General and send a copy to the Austin American Statesman newspaper......don't send an e-mail.......mail a letter with your signature. Keep your statements succinct and non-emotional. Also, attorneys can bring action against law enforcement officers....you may need to contact one, who will probably help you file a grievance against the officer(s) at the local level. |

you are retarted, the U.S. is not a communist country. We simply arrest people for breaking the law. America did not fight communism for 50 years just to become it. |

It makes perfect sense that if you are allowed to drive a several thousand pound weapon around on public thoroughfares that you have insurance, it is a priviledge not a right.
Can you name our constitutional rights?
Not a single thing you mentioned is a violation of those rights.
You need to back away from the computer, get a book, after you get a job and educate yourself on rights, as from your question you are totally confused between personal responsibility and constitutional rights. |

The fact is that driving a car is a privilege not a right. Also driving that car you need to be financially responsible and capable of covering any damages that car may cause. The law saying that you must have insurance in no way relates to communism. MY guess is that you are an undereducated person and have no real knowledge of how a communism works. Communism basic premise is that everyone gets an equal share. We don't all get a equal share everyone gets what they work for. 'Dems the breaks. Wake up America this is a Republic not a democracy or a communism not everything is going to seem fair to everyone all the time. Look at little kids they are always fighting and whining that someone else got a bigger share and they didn't get enough. Getting an equal part isn't fair to the ones who actually work hard and try to get somewhere, what isn't fair is lazy people who don't work and do nothing more than draw welfare.
You are whining and complaining that you lost your job and couldn't afford insurance, yet you drove and chose to break the law.
As far as the kid buying cigarettes under age hello?? Another crime!!
As far as Ethics pull the beam out of your own eye so that you can see clearly the help you brother remove the splinter in his own. In other words when you start obeying the laws yourself then maybe you will be able to see what is going in around you.
It is time to pull yourself up by your bootstraps and go get another job anything to tide you over. |
