What's your answer?
Find answers to your legal question.

What's your answer?

There appear to be many people who dislike law enforcement and have no respect for them. If you think that law enforcement does such a bad job then what is your solution? How do you keep the peace in America and keep people safe without law enforcement? Or what would you do to improve the system?

I am looking for serious answers that are thought through. Please elaborate on your answers.

Mr. T
I've lived my life so far (I'm only 19 years old) with one personal rule.

DON'T GO LOOKING FOR TROUBLE,
or ELSE YOU WILL FIND IT!

I once drove through an industial area at 1AM, I was pulled over by a patrolman. He asked me what I was doing, shone his flash light in my car and in my face. I didn't take it personal, and told him nicely that I was taking a short cut through the area to get to the freeway. After the usual ID check, he let me go. Of course he followed me all the way to the interstate on ramp, but like I said "NOTHING PERSONAL". He had a job to do and I was glad he made sure I got safely to the freeway.

If this had been Snoop Dog or Zoe, I'll bet they'll be swearing and giving the officer lip, then when the officer tell them to be quiet. They'll turn it around and say they were threaten and the officer was disrespectful.

It is my firm belief that those who complain the loudest about law enforcement are those who continually break the law and get caught.

People who disobey traffic laws and get ticketed, people who have been busted for illegal substances, those who - when pulled over- smart mouth the officer, refuse to show I.D. or follow the officers direction, thugs and like that.

The instances of corruption among our police is a very, very small percentage - and they are caught and punished.

Those who make a habit out of ignoring the rules the rest of us live by get more police attention than the rest of us......that's why they complain.

I think video cameras mounted in police cars is a beautiful thing......shows exactly what happens and how. It has also cut complaints about "police brutality" and "unfair harassment" percentages way down.

Personally, I have always been afraid of police. Not because of a bad experience, but because my mom always taught me to do the right things. If I was pulled over (which in 14 yrs of driving has only been once) it meant I broke the law. Now that I work for the local sheriff's dept, they are just normal people who put their lives on the line day in and day out to protect all of us, even the idiots that bash them. THANK YOU to all law enforcement officers.

My serious answer comes from my experiences as a juvenile who had a lot of contact with the cops to being a cop myself. I NEVER would have struck an officer when I was a child. Run? yes. Nowadays kids and adults a like are not afraid or respectful of the police because they do not see punishments for the crimes they commit. There is an excuse for everything. Are there bad cops out there? Oh yes! But you know what we are all human and make the same mistakes. We are just doubly prosecuted for them. First in the media, then in court. If you hate us so much DON'T CALL.

They dislike law enforcement because they dislike authority and being told what to do.
Then they are the first ones to whine when something bad happens to them and the officers don't arrive in 3 minutes.

They won't have any serious suggestions for you, because they are all trolls and haters who just want to stir the pot and say hateful things in here that I guarantee you they would never say face to face to anyone let alone a police officer.

God bless our brave, hardworking police officers!
They are truly the backbone of our nation.

Jim
if people hate police officers so much quit calling them to handle problems such as raising your children, complaining about the neighbors tv is to loud, or someone walk across your yard or "trespassed" you get the picture.

Police Officers are here to help people ya you may not agree that speeding 9 miles an hour over the speed limit is a good reason to get pulled over but that could save your life some day. Police risk their life's everyday they go to work to make sure you and your property are safe, and the sad part is they do not get paid nearly enough to do it so quit complaining appreciate what the Police do for you every day................

They have no serious answers..

These people you see posting here on the boards with all the hate are trolls just trying to wind up and inflame the boards. It has gotten bad since school got out for the summer.

The angry ones are criminals or those that have be arrested or jacked up for doing the same stupid thing over and over and over again.

Or, they are people who are lazy or angry because they have to follow rules they do not agree with.

Anyone who feels that they can do a better job should be first in line to fill out the application. I retired after 30 years working for a major city, so I know for a fact there is at least one opening. Want to bet there won't be a long line.

The biggest problem is that the law enforcement agencies are no longer looked at as a service to the community, but rather a business. It's not the cops fault, is the bureaucrats that make the decisions. Instead of focusing on the criminals who are causing problems, they focus on the speeder. They make more money off you and me. The criminal only drags the system down and cost it more money. For instance....years ago when you had a problem with your car, the cop would pull over and help you any way they can. Now days they will either blow right by you (even if you are in harms way), or if they do stop, they want to see all your paper work just to see if they can make a buck. Unfortuantly this is becoming the American way. Why do you think Bush wants to get this immagration bill passed before elections....because he thinks that the Republicans will get the Mexican vote.

I asked this same question a couple of months ago and started getting pelted with violation notices.

You will not get an answer to this question. The real haters will dodge your question and probably call you out by name in a future question. Snoop Dogg posted that I am an advocate of Child Rape after I pointed out some of his bias.

You're wasting your breath Hockeyfan.

The people who dislike law enforcement and have no respect for them, are PROBLEM MAKERS

None of them are PROBLEM SOLVERS.

Just another COWARD behind the computer.

I hav efound that most people who dislike cops/le, are the criminals who feel they are being'harassed' by them for breaking the law. Hey idiots, if you stop acting like idiots and stop breakign laws, the cops will leave you a lone. If you are nice to them, thye will be nice to you. They will go out of their way to piss you off if you piss them off. They are sworn officials and have authority to detain and question you, even if you have done nothing wrong. Just cooperate, and things will be cool.

i don't dislike law enforcement. I think the laws we have need fixing. Why are the rich getting away with murder and the poor rot in jail? The officers I have met are nice, with one exception. The motorcycle officer was a real idiot. I figured he had a fight with his girlfriend and this caused his foul mood.

we first need to know what the problem is. we incarcerate more people here in the U.S.A. than any place in the world. Why? well drugs are the biggest factor. they are behind the high crime rate. who is behind the drugs? you want serious answers? can you handle the truth? use these videos as a starting point in you quest for real answers. if your serious about finding answers, these videos will give you answers, but more importantly, they will raise more questions, important questions. the answers to those questions are available too, again, if you can handle the truth.

If you want people to say nice things about law enforcement officers, have them drive around handing out free pizzas and coffee instead of speeding tickets. When people break laws like shoplifting, have them give the offender a big bear hug and let them go with a warning. Instead of jails we can just build compassion centers where offenders receive treatment. Disarm them, too.

I have respect for competent law enforcement.
I don't have respect for what seem to me to be a lot of cops with a high-school education who are given guns, badges and authority and turned loose on society.
I have seen too many examples of these types of cops abusing the rights of citizens.

*~*I love cupcakes*~*
We need to respect each other. The police needs to not take advantage of their authority. And the people need to respect these people, because without them..all hell would break loose. Thank GOD for police everywhere in this world but they need to really protect and serve and not hit innocent people like at the MC Arthur Melee.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=2T0doonBu3U

This is why people "hate" the police nowadays. hurting men, women and children hitting them with batons and rubber bullets while they are protesting and using the right to freedom of speech is NOT protecting and serving.

Keeping people safe and beating the &$*## out of a criminal and then throwing him into a hell hole are two different things. There is an awful lot of the latter; actually, even with the current system there isn't that much of the former. It's a proven fact that if someone really wants to commit a crime, especially one of violence, they'll probably be able to even if they are caught and punished after doing so. Therefore, our system is about punishing criminals, usually harshly.
Is this justice? Oftentimes it seems the punishments and actions of the punishers are so sadistic that the situation become unbalanced to injustice on the side of the authorities. If there is no justice or ethics involved in crime and punishment, it seems like mere brute violence.

PH
Cops are weird nowadays. They act like thugs to you and me, when we haven't even done anything wrong. But when you REALLY need a cop, like when there is a madman still on the loose shooting up schools (Columbine, Virginia University) the cops cower like sissies behind rocks and trees for an hour and don't save anyone. They just make a speech after it's all over on TV saying what a tragedy it was.

Cops are arrogent, stop that, and we can be friends again
