What are my chances of getting caught.....please help.....REALLY SCARED?

ok so me and my friend almost got caught stealing motor oil. now you might ask why would anyone steal motor oil? well the oil is called royal purple and if you know anything about cars its one of the most expensive motor oils ($9.00 per qrt). we also stole and amsoil oil filter ($23.00). the store is half an hour from the city we live in. the whole reason we went there in first place was to duplicate the key for my car but while in the store we decided to steal the oil.

so we go in the store and we duplicate the keys and then we take one quart of oil and the oil filter and put it in our pockets. we went to the cashier check out and paid for the duplicated keys. we walked out the store and the cashier didnt even notice we had something in our pockets. we went to my car and sat in there for about 15 minutes and decided to go back and get more oil.

so we go back the second time and get 5 more quarts of oil. we put 4 of them in our pockets and wanted to pay for one of them so we wouldnt look suspicious walking out of the store without buying anything. we have been stealing from this store numerous times before and never got caught. the store doesnt have those sensors on the doors that go off when you steal something. that is what makes it so easy to steal from there.

but what we didnt know is the store hired secret shoppers ( people hired to pretend they are shopping when they are actually looking for people stealing things). so not knowing that this lady was a store employee because she was dressed in regular clothes, she was watching our every move the whole time. she didnt see us actually putting the oil in our pockets but i guess it was pretty obvious that we had things in our pockets. so we went on and paid the for 1 quart and she was in line behind us with a shopping cart. as soon as we paid the the quart of oil and walked out the door she said excuse me im store security. me and my friend ignored her and just kept walking. she kept saying it will be a lot better if you just stop, she also said we already got you on survillance but we continued walking away from her. we walked away from where my car and parked and when we got far enough, we ran back fast to the car, got in and drove off. she didnt bother to run after us because she was kind of big. when i got in the car i looked back and i saw her talking on her cell phone. what we stole was about $70 dollars worth. so thats pretty much what happened. now please answer my questions

1) what are the chances the me and my friend will get caught?
2) do you think when she was talking on her cell phone she was calling the police or the store manager?
3) are the cameras in the parking lot rolling 24/7 and can they get every single license plate of a car in the lot?
4) if we do get caught, how long will we go to jail for? im 19 and my friend is 17
4) when is it safe to go back to that store again?
5) do you think they will show us on the news?

the police from another city are gonna visit me? i live half an hour from where this happended

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you should expect a visit from a detective pretty soon. (If you are affluent enough, you might get a coutesy call asking you to turn yourself in for arrest.)

You'll also want to get someone to erase your hard-drive as your question that you just typed is now admissable evidence of the crime. (You confessed to several million people.)

She was probably calling the police when on the cell phone and while you were in the store, once she decided that you were worthy of being monitored, the eye-in-the-sky recorded your every move.

If the police don't come-a-calling, don not ever go back to this store. Once you are recognized, you will be followed on your every step. should even "eat-a-grape" in the produce section without paying, you'll be arrested.

Yeah, First off you shoulda never put that on here. I don't understand people who confess to crimes on here all the time.

But anyway, if the parking lot has cameras, you will be caught. Most likely. I guess there could be a small chance you guys won't get caught.

The fine depends on your age.
Will you be on the news...doubt it. Small crime.
Jail...I dont know if you'll get jail for such a small amount stolen. I would assume just a fine.

Word advice...dont go back to the store.

your screwed. Yes servos have cameras, and all video surveillance, is normally run continuously, time stamped and dated. this would have been burnt or recorded and handed over to the police. Weather or not they recorded your stupidity and rego all depends on where they are located.
You were seen committing the act, your rego was recorded by the officer, so even if they don't have video, they have an experienced and trained officer who would love nothing more then standing up in court and telling the world what she saw.
Does it matter who she was on the phone to? either way your screwed. as for jail, all depends on the judge you get, the offence you get charged with, the state your in, and your previous history.
Its not a matter of if you get caught but when, every knock on the door,every cop car behind you, you will be thinking to yourself, is today the day I go to jail.
Never go back to the store, even if you run out of fuel on a dark and stormy night, find another servo, all attendants by now have most likely been shown the footage, and have your faces firmly imprinted on their brains so the next time you step foot into the servo, the cops will be called. Your small time kid, your not even close to being news worthy, as for cops coming from another city, pray they send the locals, otherwise you'll have two extremely P^&%$# off cops who have driven for an hour to follow up a petty crime, no matter how nice you are to them, they have to still drive back.

I think the paranoid feeling you have isn't leaving anytime soon. Was the $70 of stolen oil worth the grief?
yes, you will end up paying for it. The car you put the oil in, will probably end up breaking down to the tune of about $700. (10 fold)
The people in the store know who you are and will remember you. One day you meet you new neighbor or boss and guess who...
It's not worth it. Get a job. Buy your own oil.

1) My friend, as much as i hate to scare you even more, your probably going to get caught if the store really cares. If they got your license plate number, or you on surveilence, your definitly screwed.
2) She was probably calling the police..
3) Security cameras run 24/7, i know this becuase my father owned a buisness of his own and had cameras up 24 hours a day, every day.
4) Thats really up to the judge. You'll more than likely get community service hours though.
5) Dont even think about going to that store again...
6) NO the media probably has wayy more important things to show, your not gonna be the center of attention friend.

Let this be a lesson to you not to steal though man. Im sorry about your situation.

Ok, well first and foremost you are old enough to know better. Second I wouldn't go back to the store at all, they will be looking for you to come back. I don't think they will come after you but it is possible, sorry. As far as punishment, there are a lot of factors to consider. The only advice I can give you is, Stop Stealing and DONT go back to that store.

1) 100% chance, you will get a visit from your local police sithing 2 days. It takes 2 minutes to run a license plate and get your house details.
2) She was on the phone with either her head security for the cameras to get you or she was telling some one your plate number.
3) Cameras are rolling 24/7 they just loop the recording. But they will know to get you on camera and save it.
4) Depends on your record and your laws. Here in Toronto I would charge you for Theft under 5000$ and a visit to the judge and let him deal with you.
5) If you hope not to get caught do not return to the store.
6) Maybe you made news within the store thats about it.

You are old enough to know better then to do something like that. So I hope you do get caught for it otherwise you will continue doing it because you will believe you can get away.

Well if she got your plates (which it sounds like she did cause she was probably pissed) she can and will give that to the police. If the store says they want to press charges, I do believe the police will come to your house. I egged some girls house (at like 11pm) and a neighbor got my plates. About a hour later I got home and was in bed, then I heard 2 police officers outside my house POUNDING on my door saying POLICE OPEN UP!!! no joke. I ended up opening my door because I knew they weren't going to stop until someone answered, and they ended up questioning me for about 2 hours. ( obviously had nothing better to do) I told them I was hanging out with my friends and nothing else. They went over to my friends house and questioned her too!!!! So, yes if she got your plates, she probably called the cops and if she said she wanted to press charges they WILL come to your house. Sorry : (

You will most likely get a visit from the police in a few days. If she wasn't calling the police, she certainly got your license plate number.

Additionally, since you went into the store the second time, only to steal, that's burglarly, a felony punishable by up to 7 years in prison in a lot of places.
