if you break the law, i mean. I don't mean things like jail time,penalties,or time at a detention center,
I mean things like hangings (people don't do that anymore, though, but i mean stuff like that)

Canada is a very civilized nation. It does not have the death penalty. all punishment types will be basically the same as in america, except without the possibliy of a death sentance. |

We don't. Hanging would be a Federal(government of Canada) solution to a indictable offence(14yrs to life). Ontario only deals with crimes summery conviction offences(6mo and less).
The people(as such the government) decided that the death penalty and other such things were no longer acceptable in Canadian society. Some of the various way that people are punished for crimes however are community service, or other programs that require that they repay the community in other deeds(monetary+service work along with a apology to the victims).
That doesn't mean that if you're a scummy bugger you're going to walk free for hitting 8 people on the street, you're going to jail. And it's going to be awhile.
The more serious the crime, the more likely that they're going to jail, once you reach to the level of an indictable offence you're going to jail for awhile. |
