What are the Pros and Cons of being a cop?

Are there any REAL cops here with experience? Do you ever regret having this job? Or was this the right decision?

Some pros are decent pay, excellent benefits including an earlier retirement than in the private sector, and a rewarding job that can completely different every day.

My major con is public perception. A quick look at many of the questions here leads me to believe it is lower than I've ever seen it. People will judge you, and compare you to, every other officer they have contact with, or read about.
