What are the police for because it is clear from most of the answers that they are useless?

Well, since it is clear (to you) from other answers that the Police are useless, then this is really a rant, and not a question.

I am a cop, it is not the cops who are at fault it is the beaurocracy, the government and the public who stop cops being cops.
Paperwok is now about 20 times more than when I started.
The Government is interested in numbers to keep the public happy not actually criminals in jail.
Every cop likes arresting criminals that is why they became cops, but when Mrs Miggins keeps whining about kids playing football and people complain because someone called them a name or Mr and Mrs call the poice because they had an argument the police get tied up dealing with tedious crap. The public need to look at themselves and take respnsibility for their own actions and those of their children not expect the police to do it, and MP's who know nothing about being a cop should butt out and let us get on with it, then maybe we could do what we are supposed to do.

Police aren't useless.. The fact is people forget that officers are working hard to take back the streets.
People are also forgetting that a lot of officers are unable to do the job to their best effort because there are to many people willing to whine about how they were treated.
There is a lot of crime but when you take away an officers right to protect us.. how can they?

Back in the 1930's in Britain there were a series of general police strikes and the consequences were so severe and the s*** hit the fan so much even back then in supposedly simpler times that the police union and the right of strike for police officers was outlawed. That's how much police were missed by people who experienced it first hand when there really were no police.

You are a douche. Don't bother the police for your stupid crap. They are too busy protecting the people that respect them and the job they do.

If you don't like the way the police in your community do things, why don't you man up, go to the academy and become one yourself so you can do things to your standards.

Yeah, I didnt think you could handle the stress and b.s. that comes with being a police officer and having to deal with tools like you.

You must remember that the majority of police type questions on here are asked by people that do not understand police work, watch too much TV, and have too much time to complain.
Police, being the limited resource that they are, must prioritize their responses. They also must depend upon the general citizenry to assist them which most do not.
I could cite millions of examples where the police were helpful but where's the fun , YA wise, in that.

You are not looking at the majority of opinions on police. The only time you hear about police are when they are doing things that are wrong. you don't hear the thousands of other stories where they saved lives or helped out. Without the cops there would be chaos. Laws would not be followed and it would be a huge free for all. Why don't you look at the truth of the situation before you bash the cops.

Not all Officers are useless, I agree some are, but a lot of the time they are tied down with paperwork and red tape.

I think the problem is the politicians, not the police. The police I have talked to are despondent, as they are so restricted, both by political correctness and resources made available. If they catch someone who is prosecuted, the court gives the offender a slapped wrist, and says," Don't be a naughty boy again." So much for Labour's being tough on crime.

you are spot on.my mate got attacked in work last week by a thug with a knife,the police came a hour later ha ha.they said do a statement and we will call back later guess what they did not,so he rang up and they said they can not make it till next week to see him.yes and he had CCTV evidence.

hi, i wa assaulted, police never bothered, contacting witnesses, checking cctv, the person who assaulted me, walked away, scot free. cps, never had enough evidence. YES THEY NEED TO GET ACT TOGETHER

That's not fair....slap a burglar in your own home or punch a mugger or exceed the speed limit and they'll be down on you before you can turn around.
Seriously, though, they do a great job but are hamstrung by legislation..they are overburdened by paperwork and their authority has been eroded to give criminals more 'rights'.

having the same problem with my local law enforcement here I called 911 before and no body even showed up at my house and it was for a fire that was about to start in an ice storm
