What are the procedures if I want to reduce the fine of my speeding ticket?

I just got a speeding ticket yesterday and the fine is $332.I got so depressed... I was going 90mph in a 70mph zone on highway 15 (in CA). It is my first time to get a speeding ticket, and I heard that it is possible to get the fine reduced. But do I have to make a contest or just go to court or anything else? If I have to go to court, what should I say that can help to reduce the fine? The ticket is too expensive and I cannot afford to pay that much.

I was going down a slope and i stepped on brakes once I saw the speed reached 90, the police officer pulled my car at the bottom of the slope and I'm sure my speed was reduced to 60 then

At only 20 mph over, you should be able to go to traffic school, but that, of course, does not answer your question. The base fine for your offense is only $70. All the rest of it are various assessments which are added on by the state and county. A judge has authority to reduce those assessments upon a showing of hardship; you will have to go to court to find out. Some judges do that, others do not. It can't hurt to ask, though I tend to think the odds are low if you are also getting a break by going to traffic school.

Sorry had to say 90 is wacked out u need to think about whats going on in your head .. Others don't need you cruising at 90 300 plus sounds a bit steep but it obviously got your attention as it should ... death isn't cool just because you're in a hurry

Go to court for sure... sometimes just showing up can get your fine reduced. Most states (not sure if CA has it) offer a driving course you can take that can either reduce your fine or help with driving record points, thus not increasing your insurance rates. See if the officer shows up to court. If not, plead not guilty and the case will be dismissed. If they do show, talk to the prosecutor (or have your attorney do it) and ask him if he can reduce the charge since this is your first speeding ticket. Just explain to him that you can't afford the fine...they are people too and deal with this stuff everyday. If he says he cannot do anything...plead guilty with an explanation and tell the judge why you were speeding (be honest though). The judge DOES look at your driving record and will take it into account. Good Luck

Your best bet is to contact the courts and ask them these questions. They are the ones who will process your ticket and will know all the laws and regulation. You should also ask the courts if you are allowed to take a driving school class. This will prevent your insurance from going up and points from being placed on your license. Just make sure you get the courts permission before doing so. If you donâ€™t the courts will reject your driving school certificate. Good luck!
