they tend to worry about people not wearing their seatbelts, more than about the drug dealers outside my window |

El Dorado County, Calif.
The Sheriff's Dept. deputies used to rob houses of people that called to let them know they would be gone on vacation.
I had a trailer house on acreage that I owned there and used when I was working on that part of the ranch. A deputy broke out the windows and tore the door apart, swiped tools and a Coleman lantern. He was seen by a neighbor driving by. Nothing was ever done about it.
That was some time ago, but they haven't improved much, just cover their tracks better. If the got rid of the Sheriff's Dept. in that county, the crime rate would drop.
Every place must have some good ones or ones that start out that way. My father was a good cop. My brother only so so and my nephew is an idiot on the force in Placer County, Ca.
My one cousin was a real good cop, and quit in disgust, Alameda County. And a fellow I worked with on the Hayward, Ca. city force who was an absolute crook, worked for the Sacramento City Police for a couple of months, then quit and came back complaining that they were all crooks there. If they were bad enough to upset him, they either were part of the Mafia, or wouldn't split with him.
Some police are really good people. But just like with the clergy it is a calling for a lot of people who should never be there. Many are taking advantage of the hype from 9/11 to run what are nothing better than con games on the public.
Added 05 Oct.
A 26 year old deputy of the Placer County, Calif. Sheriff's office was put on leave today when people complained about him sleeping with a 16 year old girl.
Just too little accountability in our civilian law enforcement agencies.
Added Oct. 7, An off duty Sheriffs Deputy (and part time city cop) killed six people in Crandon, Wisconsin today. This mass murder ended with the alleged perp. dead also, apparently shot by the City Police. Just think how many months we would hear about this one on the evening news if it had been a kid making threats at a school. |

they are a complete waste of space. a boy once stole my sons bike and when i went to look for the boy there were two policemen walking towards me. i stopped them and was beginning to tell them what happened when the lad came out of a house i told them that was him and asked them to go to the house because the bike would be in there and they told me they couldnt do anything until i phone the police, make a statement then they could go and look. by this time the lad had obviously moved the bike on and my son had no bike. i really hate the way some police act! |

I think that the police in my area (Seattle) are doing a remarkable job. I also think that police everywhere don't get enough credit for the jobs they are doing. Nobody likes getting ticket or getting arrested, but the majority of the time you deserve what you get. If you weren't driving like a freak or breaking the law, you wouldn't get pulled over. These people put their lives on the line with little thanks and respect. You hate the police yet they are the first people you call if you need help. And yes, there are some "bad" cops out there. But, there are "bad" people in every profession!!! |

Much like the police on The Simpsons.
Always crying for more funds and they don't
do anything useful. One Sheriff and his son had the
drug trade cornered for a long time. Daddy sold
grass and Junior manufactured meth in a lab
on property owned by the Justice Court Judge. |

I don't have any trouble with the ones in my own town. The surrounding towns' cops seem to get bored after dark though, and will pull you over for the silliest things.
In general, they do look out for the people though. |

Police are doing a great job - it's the Magistrates and Judges that are useless. |

I find the police in my area lazy and ignorant.
Wont chase underage drinkers,
Will suspect the victim without reason,
Could be an hour late to a call out, or will not show. |

I don't have any feelings for them as you never see them in this area apart from flying past in a police car with lights flashing...Cumbria |

I hold them in high regard. I'd hate to think what life would be like without them. Like any group of people there are some bad apples, but I have never seen a cop who did not behave professionally. Of course other than some traffic violations I've not been arrested. |

Having had to use my local police for around 8 months recently, (although the matter isn't resolved), I can honestly say that all the PCs (bar one) I saw were helpful, polite and understanding. I did however surmise that their 'hands are tied' when it comes to some issues, and that if they were 'untied' then they could do their jobs much more successfully. But that's just my experience..... |

for the most part I'm very happy, except when they go flying by me and weave in and out of traffic for no apparent reason. |

we live in a rural area so we dont have the luxury of police, but we do watch the bill if that counts. |

There is no respect for the law and the police who enforce the laws the criminal has rights the victim does not, we find the police in Nottinghamshire, are now there to collect taxes in the name of traffic fines, the dishonesty of this tax collecting scam is an affront to any honest person, 5million people saw pigeons set of speed camera's on the TV recently, the police say it didn't happen, the police have found the only piece of technology in the world that does not break down, they are nothing but a shower of legalised thieves, old ladies terrorised, vandalism, sorry not bothered no number plates. |

I don't know whether we have any in our area. I've seen the 'wannabes' a few times walking about in packs, doing nothing in particular.
I must say I have heard the sirens of possibly police cars, but they could be going for their dinners or 'sounding off with blue lights flashing in case they go through a speeding camera'.
Have you ever seen a dream walking. |

Don't know, we moved here 2 Months ago, local police station always closed. Never seen one on the beat, lots of traffic wardens tho. Maybe they are busy filming street crime UK 5 ? |

I've been pulled over a few times.
Even had my car impounded once on easter morning because it wasn't registered (forgot that it expired.. that's what i get for being a procrastinator).
I've gotten a ticket for a broken headlight.
I got pulled over for failure to inspect my car, but I did have the paperwork saying I was within the 45 days the inspection station gives you to fix what's wrong with it in order to pass inspection, but he still gave me the ticket.
Overall? I probably should be one of you previous geniuses who say "FTP". I respect the officers in my area. If I got pulled over and issued a ticket, it was my own fault.
It's their job to keep the community safe, which also means pulling you over if you're speeding or have a broken headlight.
Unfortunately it takes a bit more work to arrest the drug dealers under your window than you're apparently satisfied with. Instead of badmouthing your area police, find a way to work with them. It's your community, they help you keep it safe. Get off your butt and do something about it instead of complaining about it here on YA!. |
