What are your views on adult recreational use of marijuana?
|
Marijuana has been used on almost every continent in the world for centuries. Historians believe it was propaganda against mexican immigrants which led to it being illegal in the U.S. The only evidence of harm against this plant I have seen is that it releases a relativly large amount of carcinogenic chemicals when smoked, yet none when vaporized. And it's negative effects on the human reproductive system (these tests were done on cloned tissue in petri dishes, with amounts of the main alkoloid delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol [THC] that would never exist in the human body) Now with alcohol and tobacco being legal for recreational use. What about marijuana?

lots of good points here.
i too think that it should be legal, anyone here who says how bad
it is only thinks that way because they were told to, how sad.
For the real people out there who think for themselves you need to stand up and fight for your future and your rights, then it will be legal
imagine if it werent illegal, and no one thought anything bad about marijuana, and you could freely use it like you can a cigarette....then where would all the harm be?? Thats how it has always been..until recent years......DO AWAY WITH THE INSANE LAWS |

I spend a lot of time dealing with marijuana arrests. I wish they would legalize the stuff. We spend way too muchtime, money, resources, and aggravation prosecuting these offenses. As long as the use of this stuff is illegal in situations where it would make sense for it to be illegal. You probably don't want me coming to your house to deal with your problem if I I have been smoking herb , right? It needs to be illegal in the places and professions where alcohol is illegal(Driving, flying, surgery etc...) . Past that, legalize it so I don't have to mess with it any more and can spend my time on duty dealing with more important issues. That, and I am tired of listening to the stoners whine about it. GOD, am I ever tired of that! |

Pot would be a lot safer then most pharmecuetical drugs The problem is, if pot was made legal, alot of people would be growing it, and the pharmecuetical industries would lose millions of dollars, because alot of people in pain, or for other reasons, would stop making them rich beyond belief, because they could control alot of there pain and increase their appitite with out the help of these expensive, over priced drugs. |

I would think that nicotine is far more addicting than pot - so is alcohol. Marijuana slows motivation and quick thinking but alcohol causes far more damage.
If it were legalized it would reduce needless court and police needed for something less harmful than alcohol.
I think that if we have the choice to use other substances then why is pot excluded? There was a documentary recently on A&E recently about opium - that it was legal until they wanted to control the Chinese by making it illegal or something like that. Maybe it was the same for marijuana. |

I have made this argument too many times. I'm getting quite exhausted.
We all know tobacco and alcohol are far more dangerous than Mary J. Well, those that have smoked it and therefore have a say in the matter.
I can't wait to get pissed off when I read the other answers here.
EDIT: Wow! I just read your answers and you're getting some support here! Now if we could just all use our intelligence for good......(no more Bush!) |

No real scientific logical reason not to legalize it. But there are so many bone heads that believe the negative propaganda about it that this will most likely never happen |

the only reason its illegal is because the us govt. wont admit they were wrong. ive done it for 40 yrs. of all the drugs out there, its the least harmful of them all. if your talking propaganda, check out a movie called reefer madness. they showed that to highschool kids back in the 40s. i suppose it pisses off the fda and law inforcement agencies, because they know theres nothing they can do to get rid of it. this country doesnt learn from past mistakes, prohabition didnt work for alcohol and it wont for this either. all that will happen is people will laugh alot and drive slow. look at the boost in the fast food industry it would make, and also the manufactures of ic cream, chocolate, pastry, ect. now im all worked up. time to smoke a fat one. |

I didn't start smoking pot until I was 31. Soon after, I was in a great deal of pain from osteoarthritis (I could barely walk and could get no sleep due to the pain) and I used pot to manage my pain. The doctors had no painkiller that would work for me.
I have also used pot to counter anxiety and it works so much better than prescription drugs.
The funny thing about marijuana is that more people smoke it than you would ever realize. The reason why we don't realize it is because we use it responsibly and don't hurt anyone else. We don't draw attention to ourselves like the cigarette smokers who force their habits on everyone and leave their butts everywhere, nor the alcoholics who create scenes in public places, become violent and get into accidents.
It should never have been outlawed in the first place -- I would get rid of cigarettes first! |

First of all legalizing pot would prove disastrous for this country. Not because of a breakdown of morality, or because everyone would go hog wild smoking it, but rather for the simple reason - Pot makes you stupid and lazy. Look at any long-time regular user and tell me that I'm wrong. Are there exceptions to this rule - sure. Just like there are people who are able to drink vast amounts of alcohol, there are people who can smoke out and maintain a job. But when you look at the population as a whole, and not at the exceptions to the rule, there is no other conclusion. |
