What can I do if a PA state trooper pulled over the wrong person?

I was driving south bound on I-79 about 3 miles north of I-80. He came to the window asked for license, insurance, and registration. I gave it too him, he went back to his car and came back gave me a ticket and told me to go on my way.

The officer was polite and I was polite in return, but the ticket said I was going 83 in a 65 (and cost $162.50). I know that I wasn't driving that fast and I even checked GPS which said I had a max speed of 76 (I know its not reliable).

The officer was positioned on top of a hill at the apex of a curve and in the time it took him to catch up to my car was at least 1 to 1.5 miles. In the time it took him to catch up we also went around another corner where he could not see me. I was in the right hand lane and when I passed the cop there had been a green mazda or toyota that was about 500 yards ahead, who had just flew passed me (i drive a green honda accord). Also it was overcast (low visibility).

I know this was a mistake what should I do?

The reason I was going 76 is because I just got off of I-90 where the speed limit is 75, i didn't admit to speeding I admitted to not going 83mph. The question is what to do when I was incorrectly pulled over. Please don't give a thumbs up to people who don't answer the question. It makes this whole thing pointless.

Go to court and try to fight the ticket - you may actually win!

miss a day's work and show up in court and plead not guilty. It's doubtful if you will win , and then you have a fine and a missed days work.
There's an old saying- you can't fight city hall.

Your GPS is reliable and didn't you say you were going 76 in a 65? What are you going to do - walk into court and tell the judge "I was speeding but not that much". $162.50 is not that bad. Many are in the $200 - $300 range. Pay it and move on.

you have the right to appeal it and make a court appearance if you want, but since you were speeding anyway, i think id just accept it.

You have to go to court. But remember...YOU have the burden of proof that you were not speeding.

So go to court about it . I can't help you get out of a ticket. Besides I have raised 4 sons, and had 5 brothers, I have heard every excuse. Just pay it or go to court.

Make an attempt to contact the DA or Prosecutor and ask about whether they will entertain a downgrade to a non-point violation, or at least a lower-point violation. There are always exceptions, but generally these things are pretty easy to get, provided the stop was a friendly one.

If you can't contact the DA ahead of time, contact the Court (should be a number on the summons) and schedule an appearance, then ask in person. Yes, you'll miss a day's pay, but it's nothing compared to what your insurance company will do to you. Most Courts understand that.

You admitted you were speeding.Pay the fine and move on. Unless you have absolute proof,which seems unlikely, traffic court will side with the trooper.

A lawyer will be more than the fine and might not help anyway.

btw-its easy to going 15-20 over the limit and not realize it.

You think it was a mistake. You were speeding and the Officer stopped you and cited you for speeding. The only disputable thing is if the Officer's speed is correct or if your is correct. You have taken a trip into the real of speculation and gone wild. You have no idea what the Officer saw and was thinking.

Go to court and plead not guilty and raise these questions in court.

if he doesnt show up, you win automatically
but if he does, just tell the judge the same thing

Have your speed gauges checked. If nothing is wrong, then take the results from a mechanic and fight it in court. Cop has to be there to show his proof.

You can always try to fight it in court, but you probably won't win. The GPS is not accurate in anyway (mine is always wrong) for detecting your speed. Besides, even at 76 you were speeding. I would get an attorney to at least try to avoid points on your license.

hire a lawyer where you pay out the butt for them to lie and say that your speedometer was off.
