What can you get for trespassing?
Find answers to your legal question.

What can you get for trespassing?

Like public property? Lets say you go into a school in the middle of the night? Or a golf course? What can you get for being on private property?

Also, the schools around here are not closed it... the don't have roofs.. and the only thing closing it in is a gate... yet there are many other openings that don't even have a gate. Would that make a difference?

if you go into a school it is burglary which is a felony and you could get prison. just trespassing is usually a fine and maybe community service. it depends what you are doing. if you are just sitting there, they will probably just tell you to leave. if you are doing something else illegal they will cite or possibly arrest you. for instance theft, vandalism, using drugs or alcohol.

For starters, you can get a criminal record.

If you enter a locked school building in the middle of the night, for example, you would not only have trespassed, but you would also have committed the crime of "Breaking and Entering." If, on the other hand, you merely cut across the corner of the schoolyard as a shortcut to a destination on the other side of the campus, then that is a benign act and you would likely not be charged for that act. (Unless you did something for which you are already fleeing.)

Did you try google first?
"Public property" is a relative term, a school is not really public... Joe the homeless guy (thankfully) cannot just walk into any elementary school and spend the day in the bathroom.

It is government funded, but it is for a limited purpose, and for a limited time (like the hours of normal operation, or a little later for after school events or employees), so if you aren't there to go to school, pick up your kid, or work, then you are probably tresspassing, regardless of what time of day you are there.

In the middle of the night... unless you are the janitor, you are in trouble and if not breaking and entering (how did you get in), you could be charged with criminal tesspass, or burglary.

A golf course, coudl be public or private, if it's public, it is just about as public as the school (open to customers, golfers, etc... during regular business hours), and going on the course for any other purpose, without permission, woudl be tresspass.

Private proerty- you cold get tresspass, you coudl get burglarly (if there wa s astructure involved), criminal mischief, criminal tresspass, or, if you are in the wrong palce, you can get shot (they might get in trouble later, but your dead)

Assume EVERY single piece of land you see is powned by someone, and if it's not you, or aren't sure it's ok, you don't have express permission to be there (or weren't welcomed by a sign saying "do as you please") then it is safe to assume that if you go on that proerty, you will be tresspassing.

I hope that helps

What you get depends on what you can steal after trespassing. I would recommend that whatever you get be small and light so as to still permit you to run away as fast as possible.
