What constitute a expired meter and be legally ticketed in Chicago?

I was eating out one day in Chicago and parked on the street. I bought a meter ticket thing from the machine on the street and displayed it properly by my windshield. The meter ticket was timed to expire at 10:29pm. These meter machines were suppose to replace parking meters. Anyways, I timed my watch and went eat. By the time we got back to my car I received a parking ticket with time issued at 10:29pm with violation of "expired meter or overstay". I saw the ticket issuer walking away and I tried to reason with her. She ignored me. If my meter ticket expired at 10:29pm and she issue the parking ticket at 10:29pm does it means she can or cannot ticket me? Should I be covered by my meter ticket until 10:29:59? Any helps appreciate!

Your timer ran out at 10:29:00. As soon as the time was expired,you can get a ticket. Sometimes these meter people wait right by your car and ticket you the second it expires. Usually once the ticket is written,they can't take it back.
Doesn't seem fair,but not much can be done about it. |

your talking Chi-Town, your lucky your car was even there when you returned! You can always ask the judge about this. I've been in traffic court before (PHX, AZ) and the judge was reasonable. Maybe you'll catch him/her on a good day. |

I hope you haven't paid the ticket yet. Technically tickets shouldn't be written within the first five minutes of an expired meter- you can contest the ticket on the grounds of the 5 minute grace period you're entitled to. Good luck! |
