i one day hope to become a police officer but i don't know what degree to seek once i go to college. what are some degrees that police departments like to see and increase my chances of getting hired? i heard that a degree in criminal justice is useless seeing how mostly anyone looking to be a cop already has one...is that true? thanks to all who answered(i live in southern california btw).

the police departments would like to see any degree. people with degrees make more money in the police department and you can promote to higher ranks faster.

having a criminal justice degree is not useless at all. I met a Captain just the other day who has a criminal justice degree. If your serious about becoming a police officer, i really recommend looking into taking criminal justice, it will really help you out.
