I have applied for a police officer postion but it said they do credit checks and i would like to know what they look at

Basically to see if you have your life together. The way you pay your bills, run your house, attend your job, etc all shows what your true character is.
If you've made some mistakes and have a good answer (not I gambled my mortgage payment away), explain it.
