It depends. If it's 2 minutes or so then ring them back. If it's longer than that then you need to speak to the passport agency, as chances are they will have been contacted and cancelled your existing passport. If you try to use it chances are you'll face difficulties at the airport. |

TELL THE POLICE YOU HAVE FOUND IT why because the next time you travel you will be stopped from travelling because the passport will have been flagged in the data base as lost stolen and you would be stopeed for enquiries into how you came into possession of a lost/stolen passport |

Dunno if it matters that you called the police, obviously call them to close the open record of loss/theft.
Then call the passport agency and let them know, that way it might not have to be re-issued.
Best way is to explain, dont want to get turned away at the airport next year after you forgot all about this do you!? |

Let them know, if they passport is scanned there will be an issue.
Because the passport has been out of your control/possession they passport office will need to re-issue you a passport. |

Tell those whom you contacted, and apologise for the inconvenience caused .Ensure that they tell airport authorities that it has been found or,you might end up detained at the airport ,perhaps worse. |

Let them know or next time you try and use it, you may be detained and have to prove with other identification that you are who you say you are. The police are not out looking for it by the way. they just took a report for when and if it would have turned up somewhere used by someone other than you. |

You should report it found otherwise it will be on record that it is not in the possession of the owner and you will not be able to use it again and have to fork out for a new one. A phone call or a visit to the police station is a much cheaper option. You could always safe face by saying your mum/sister/anyone moved it for safe keeping. |

Tell them you have found it, they will have absolutely no problem with this. If you have applied for a replacement tell the passport office. |

couldn't help it. Just call them and tell them you found it. You did the right thing by reporting it lost as soon as you couldn't find it. |
