What do you think about cops?

They waste their time taking advantage of their power.

They are like pain: necessary, but you want nothing to do with them/it unless something is very wrong with your head.

i think the job attracts 2 kinds of people.
-people who want to do good
-people who want power

other than that i have no thoughts. however i have a story. one night i was at a show where the cops busted a under aged drinker. some drunk idiots yelled "F*** THE POLICE" and for that the band got shut down and everyone was yelled at. the police man said "i dont care about the under aged drinkers but i do care about you talking bad about me" call me crazy but this seems very childish. its like someone saying "i dont care your breaking the law just dont try to talk sh*t about me or i'll make you pay" i think what happened was stupid and uncalled for. the cop should of been more responsible and done his job rather than be butt hurt from something he probably hears all the time.

I have been one since 1965.
Power and Authority are a tough edge to conquer.
One day you are a civilian, the next day you are making a Traffic stop.
I will never forget that first stop, got out of car and did my thing, walked back to car, then it hit home, I was the red light guy now.
One has to learn that respect can be commanded and demanded but; one will finally learn that, in time, respect is only good, when it is earned and gained.
Give them time, they are adjusting to a public who fears to be stopped.
Your stop is the unknown, what have I got here? Gonna shoot me next, or yell at me, or say what did I do?

For the most part they are sincerely hardworking individuals. Most of them care about making their communities better. Despite having been arrested more than a dozen times I have the utmost respect for their position. They receive very little respect from most. Unfortunately the media does a great job of emphasizing those who do as you say in taking advantage of the powers they are granted.

cops protect you wile you sleep you ignorant fool..
sure there are a few who abuse their power but they eventually get kicked off the force and there are not that many.

I bet you wouldn't complain about the police if you were getting robbed and they had to come save you

Pretty general statement which tells me that you had problems with a cop and now think they are all bad. Next time you are in a bad car accident, or your house gets robbed or your significant other gets hurt or even killed, don't call a cop ok? Just deal with it on your own. Think about that.

Cops are people too. Its way stupid to expect them to put up with crap - what person would not retaliate, to the limits of their authority (at least). Also their training is to assert control over the situation rapidly ( for everyones safety), and their motivation is to go home alive, every day. If you have a problem with a specific cops behavior, note his badge number and complain.

If you fail to cooperate with his need to get the situation under control, expect a rapid take-down and handcuffs, so that he can get back to watching his back rather than piddling around with you.

The laws they have to enforce, and quotas they may be required to meet are not their idea. If you disagree with the laws, talk to a politician.

there are some good guys out there but I'd say most are corrupt my info comes from people who have worked in the criminal justice system as well as from some police officers themselves.

I use to say there are two types of cops the bad cops and the good cops who know about the bad cops and do nothing.

On a different side I would not want there job. I am not sure if I 'd be the cop I should be. I may be just like them. corrupt.

The people making blanket generizations about "don't call them for help" are delusional. Just because someone calls cops for help doesnt make all cops good. EVERYONE pays for cop's services and can use them whenever they want. That doesnt put cops above the law.

By those people's standards, anyone who has a job is above the law or above reproach.

Not all cops are bad, but there are bad ones out there. What's more disturbing is all the "good" cops who let the bad cops be bad.

Cop is a job that needs to be closely monitored or lots of evil can happen.

They risk their lives to protect and to serve the public. To a lot of people they are just another cop, but they are a father/mother, brother/sister, husband/wife or son/daughter to somebody..
