What do you think about nerds fighting crime?

I watched a special on these guys as well as read a few articles on them.
They don't Search for criminals. They are basically a neighborhood watch, that dress up as superheroes. Some carry tasers and restraints for self defense. They have occasionally preform citizens arrests but only for crimes they saw happening on the streets they regularly patrol.

They aren't vigilantes or anything of the sort. Just concerned citizens that put a new spin on a neighborhood watch concept.

I think it would work to deter smaller crimes (Graffiti, brawling, public intoxication, illegal parking, etc.) but with more serious offenses like robbery, murder, muggings I think they only make phone calls to the authorities for the most part. I like the costume concept as it makes them noticeable( and therefore safer) but doesn't give them any sort of implied authority over non-superhumans.

BTW, i just noticed what the acronym for this group is....

Well getting hit by a taser is a great way to discourage someone from committing a crime. It seems a bit a silly, but they are probably a little more effective than overweight mall cops, and they don't even get paid for it.

No. Most likely, these kids will get stabbed when they mess with the wrong person. I can see them trying to stop a gang or someone on crack, and just getting shot right there.
Or, they're going to get arrested, since you can only make a citizens arrest when someone's life is in danger- like robbery, kidnapping, murderer, rape, etc. Not for graffiti or drugs, however.
Personally, I would kick the crap out of them if they tried to do something.

Why would someone who tasers a criminal be a nerd? I say more power to them. Nerds are people who are complacent about crime and just accept it.

personally i think its hilarious.

they cant catch criminalsd with no training.
my dad is a prison officer
so i know there are some pretty violent people in there.
let alone out.

Intentionally searching out crime can put them afoul of regulations and invalidate those citizen's arrests.
