What do you think about the Gill woman who was tazered 7 times by Warren, Ohio police officer? The video tape
|
has been all over the news and it shows this cop tazering the woman even though she can't stand up and wasn't fighting or creating big problems until after she'd been tazers several times and then claims she was in fear for her life. How would you react? She admits she was drunk and if the prosecutor's words are correct, she was so drunk she was 3 times over the Ohio legal limit. Wouldn't that put her in the realm of incoherent and unable to follow directions and in need of assistance? What should be done about tazers? Additional Details The woman was not drinking and driving. She got into a friend's car because that friend was going to take her home and she was just waiting. She was heard repeatedly telling the officer that she was trying to comply but she couldn't even walk after being tased that many times. She didn't kick at the window of the police car until after she had been tased multiple times.
For anyone to say tasers don't cause injury and are not fatal is to ignore the fact that numerous people have been killed by tasers. A 15 year old was tasered in a school and died. Numerous others were tasered and died as a result.
I don't object to police having tasers, nor do I object to their using them, but if you all watched the complete video, as I did two mornings in a row, you would have seen that there was no real need for the officer to keep tasering the woman. The prosecutor claims the cop is on paid administrative leave pending investigation that the prosecutor brought to the police chief.

I think that it is more police abuse . Police stuck together. The woman's life was risked. This is not accpetable. I am writing U.S. Manafacturers of cars to ask that sound / camara packages be insalled in the cars. I am witing and participating in political groups to let them know that this is unacceptable and we we laws chages. There are many good cops , but there are a majority of bad ones. The bad cops had better get a new career plan or consider some life if prison. CItitizens Against Corrorp Cops! CACCS ... We weill row across the crountry and change laws just like MADD did. |

The woman is trying to get pity and a payday. If the police officer really wanted to hurt her, he would have used his nightstick.
The rules are simple: Unless you have reason to beleive the officer is fake, comply with his commands. If you think he's a fake you can calmly offer to drive to the nearest station house with him following, ask him to call a supervisor, or call 911 yourself to confirm he is for real. |

You resist-you get tased. Whats your question? |

I have not seen the video, but I can tell you that normally it's takes more than one taser application to gain compliance (one to get their attention, the 2nd or more to get compliance).
Once the taser is deployed, the officer will not abandon it to go 'hands-on' if the suspect is still connected to the darts. It's safer for both the suspect and the oofficer for the officer to apply multiple shocks until compliance is obtained.
If the suspect becomes disconnected from the taser darts or wires, the officer has the option to reload another taser dar cartridge, apply a 'dry-stun' (using the taser gun like a stun gun), or going to an alternative use of force (physical restraint, pepperspray, baton, etc as the situation demands as appropriate.) |

She was in fear of her life because she was being tazered? It not a gun! If she wouldnt of been such a damn fool and none of this would of happened but just like the lowlifes in America, they blame everyone else and expect to be paid even though its there fault. |

Tasers are probably the best law enforcement tool ever invented. They get the job done and leave no permanent harm. |

The Cops are truly "out of control" across the Country, this is one more case in a long string of events over the years. Sadly they usually get away with this sort of behavior. Here are a couple news video's... take a look and decide for yourself. Scary behavior by men with guns !!!!

"...even though she can't stand up and wasn't fighting or creating big problems until after she'd been tazers several times and then claims she was in fear for her life."
Did you see the same video I saw? She was drunk and belligerent, trying to kick out the window of the police car, swung at the cop twice from what I saw, would not comply with orders even AFTER she was tased, and argued every little thing that the cop said. What is worse, the tasing didn't make her want to comply and end the zapping she just kept arguing and fighting.
How about this. The next time they have to take a SEVERELY intoxicated woman into custody they can call you and you can decide what they need to do and also the back up plan when that doesn't work.
Being tased is a lot better than getting your arms broken when you fight being cuffed and the police have to force your arms into them. It also cuts down on the property damage and injuries from trying to kick out the windows.
Should they have pepper sprayed her? Then she would be blind, drunk, and belligerent. Should they have talked to her nicely? Even better, if they can't control her without tasing her how about they just let her go on her VERY merry way. When they do, don't cry to us when she kills your mother when she gets back on the road.
Get real. |

I'm not exactly sure where you got 7 times from, but the video only shows twice that she got hit. When an officer tells someone to comply, perhaps they should do it and not fight and argue. |

As an officer I am an advocate of the taser. I have used it multiple times. Each should be looked at on a case by case basis. The incident you are now speaking of should not be lumped in with all taser uses or all officers. I do not know the surroundings of the bar or the patrons. I do not know the crime rate or types of crime in that area (is it high crime, do people carry guns or knives). Did the lady not comply with orders? Yes---She did not comply. This is a reason to discharge to taser by many policies. People say that the officer kicked her... He push/ kicked her in the rear to get her to the ground. This in my opinion is acceptable. Why she did not stay on the ground after ordered I do not know...Would it be safe for the officer to place hands on her at that time with the bar patrons near? I do not know what he does. I am not on scene. If he felt that he should discharge until she stays on the ground...Then he is the one on scene. Who am I to second guess him. In reference to the tasing of the handcuffed individual... I have done this. handcuffed people can perform FELONIES!!! How hard is it for society to understand that a person still has the use of their feet. Was she trying to kick out the window of the car? I don't know. I was not there. Let the report come out... |

I think if she had not been DRINKING AND DRIVING in the first place, she would not have been in that situation. |

I think the police abuse their power when they taser people like he did.He was also pushing her with his foot so she could'nt get up.FIRE HIM NOW before he seriously hurts someone. |
