Not much. All these schools telling you to pay all these thousands of dollars for training are just trying to get money. You wait for a job announcement and most departments have a writing test that you take first. Next you go for an interview and a physically test and there you go. Good luck

Where I live it's all about who you know (political connections). If you know someone who is a police officer and can give you a good reference, then you have a good chance of getting in. You obviously need a good score on the written exam and pass the back ground check as well. Take as many written exams as possible. It will help you improve your score.

It depends on what aspect you are talking about. I would get a degree in Police Science or something. The competition is tough. It isn't like the old days. Education is your best chance.
