It all depends. If you are a cooperative willing witness for one side, you dress up. If you've been dragged in by the prosecution to testify against your will, the same goes.
If the defense has you as an unwilling witness, slobbiness, or even outrageousness might be in order.
If you've been subpoenaed, so long as you are decent, the judge is not going to do anything. |

I would recommend black pants, white shirt, and a tie. Simple as that.
don't show up in a wife beater, with your pants hangin to your knees so the judge can see some cheap Calvin knock offs. |

No matter what kind of legal matter is involved, you can't go wrong with a suit (or pant suit). It shows that you respect the court and its officers.
In civil matters, you could probably get away with 'business casual' like khakis, but really, if you have something better, that's what you should wear.
Again, it's a respect thing. |

the judge is not looking for what you wear its what you did or what you are going there for, jeans and a top are good |

In the past, I have always preferred a nicer dress code than that-But it really depends if you're the one on trial or not. If youare the one, then i would opt for something a bit dressier. Otherwise nice jeans and a dressy top are fine. |

If you dress in a suit like a lawyer, the other people at court will assume you are a lawyer when they look at you. This is because at court, the only people who dress like lawyers are lawyers.
Look your best. You will definately feel better than the all the other mopes. |

Dress respectfully and try to seem young and innocent. Sweaters are good that way. Dress like you are going to church or to visit your grandma. |

Ive been to court in shorts and sleeveless shirt and 'sandals'. Got $50 fine and $50 court costs when was charged with possesion of prohibited weapon. And I am dark and tough looking, with previous convictions. They were handcuffs brought from an adult book shop.
The way I dressed was appropriate. The charge was a joke so I treated it like a joke. So how you dress should probably be determined on wether your guilty or not or how you feel about the charge. Dont be afraid of no judge |
