If you are talking about driver's licenses, it means just that.... However you can usually re-apply in two to three years in most places if you are a good person with no bad marks against you.

Once I had a general master (judge) tell me to put a guy in jail for child support for an indefinite amount of time. Upon asking around, it was 179 days or he could purge out for $2000 that day or anytime during that 179 days while sitting in jail.

Apparently, this jurisdiction lets the judge put people in jail for up to 6 months for contempt...

What is being suspended?

An investigation? A sentence? A NHL player? A dissolved substance in a liquid?

Since this is the law enforcement category, and your other questions are about your fiance becoming a cop and a juvenile probabtion violation for drinking...I'll have to assume it's related to one of those.

Ummm...his application to the VA police could be suspended indefinitely until he finishes "his" juvenile case.

Or, a police report often has patrol efforts suspended when the officer will not be following up on the crime.
