Nothing to Law Enforcement.
To the Criminal Justice System of the Courts, it means once tried you cannot be retried for the same crime if found innocent.
It does not bar a prosecution of a state finding of not guilty but the Federal Government charges.
Case in point a guy is charged with murder and get off because the guy died 2 hours before he was shot. Not guilty. Now the detective charges the guy with a Federal crime of defacing a corpse out of the same case but not the same charge.

It means a lot for law enforcement because it raises the bar on burden of proof. If a person is tried for a crime and found innocent then they can not be tried again no matter what else comes out. That makes it very important to the officer to get it all right and complete the first time. In most cases you will not get another chance.

when you may have been falsely accused of a crime, say murder, and say that person really is still alive, you go to jail, serve your time, and get out... If you can track that SOB down, put a bullet in his head, you cannot be put back in jail.. ( but if it were me, I would make him/ her serve the same amount of time in jail)... Pretty much you cannot be tried for the same crime, twice...... Haven't you seen the movie Double Jeopardy?

It also means a law enforcement officer CAN be charged twice for the same act; i.e. shooting a person wrongfully (state court) and then in federal court for violating the person's rights.

hello double jeopardy is a protection in the court system that protects a defendant from continually being charged, recharged over and over. once the case is over, its over! no double charging ie. double jeopardy, great stuff that works for the mob, teflon don, good luck!

If you are tried and found not guilty you can not be tried again, even if right after you were found not guilty, you stood up in court and said I really did it,you still could not be charged again. But,have a nice life-what come around, goes around!

WHEN you have been charged with or plead guilty to a crime - you cannot then be picked up and charged with the same crime again....

Once you have been charged and done your time the matter is then
sorted out......completely.
