What are the rules and restrictions? (Arrested for shoplifting while on DA's probation) im assuming my friends punishment will be state probation. Can she leave the state?

She will get a set of rules ( called sanctions) she will have to follow while on probation. Each one is tailored to the individual but certain sanctions are standard.
Maintain steady employment. Report when ordered. Do not associate with other persons on probations. Remain drug and alcohol free. Do not leave the area of probation ( meaning county and state). Pay all fines and restitutions. Do not break any laws nor get any citations ( traffic tickets) and report any interaction with police agencies immediately.
Probation, by it's nature, is meant to be restrictive. This is a test to see if a person can follow rules or if they need to be in jail instead. Under all normal conditions, a person on probation is not allowed to leave the state. If something "special" is coming up, a probationer can ask their PO for permission to leave the state. She would have to specify why and for how long. If granted, the PO will give it in writing. If she asks and does not get permission or the PO doesn't answer in time, she is not allowed to go.

Each State defines the guidelines for probation for the various offenses and your friend will be given a set of rules to go by. In Louisiana, it is classified as unapproved travel and one cannot leave the state of jurisdiction without permission from their PO or it is a violation whereby probation may be revoked. |
