What good do law enforcement officers expect from...?

unfortunately the GOVERNMENT really does not want the public to actually protect themselves...they say do not take the law into your won hands and make yourself a criminal too. but that is bull..... when it take many many minutes for a police officer to come to your assistance if not a half hour .... people think the removal of all guns will make it better place to live..let me tell you straight from the criminals mouth..they all hope and pray that the government take s guns from law abiding citizens..so the only people with guns will be the government( police, military) and the CRIMINALS..yes the criminals will always have guns....imported from other countries, given to by gad cops, or stolen and sold to the criminal..the criminals say it would be like catching fish in a barrel....so so easy...
now that restraining order is a piece of paper that in the end will make it easier for the police adn the courts to put that person who WILL go against that restraining order in jail..it only stops the good person from going further..it never stops anyone else...
it is like putting a lock on your house door..it keeps out the potentially good person, and stops them from becoming a criminal..a lock NEVER stops a criminal..so the same for that piece of paper...it is only a legal piece of PAPER...for the courts.
once the people realize they are in charge of this country and MAKE the politicians do what we want and NEED..a safe country..then that piece of paper may mean something, but until that day..it is only a piece of paper..

Restraining orders are a joke. They are about as funny as expecting a police officer to help you in the first place. Wait until you are dead, and then they will help you.

Unfortunately, the budgets have been drastically cut by so-called pro-public safety, neo conservative parties in Washington. There isn't enough money to hire extra personnel to enforce restraining orders until a crime or even a murder has occurred. A restraining order isn't worth the paper it's written on. It only gently brushes aside a very serious safety issue making the taxpayer/citizen feel as though the courts and government are doing their jobs to protect the down trodden. I think the government and courts should mandate the use of tasers or small caliber handguns so those who are in need of protection can do it themselves. I'd issue a restraining order, but with it comes a weapon. Break it, and the offender would lose a knee, a private part, or his/her life.

You don't need bodily injury. You just need a threat. Usually a domestic disturbance is gounds for the option. Or if someone is arrested and the family wants them to stay away, you can apply for one.

Basically anyone can get one out of fear of harm (i.e. threats)
