What happens if I go to the police about my husband?
|
What happens when you file a police report about domestic violence? I'm scared the police will laugh at me or tell me I'm lying. My friends say 'he must really love you if he's being violent'. My family tell me it's my fault. What will the police do? Will I get forced to go to court? I'm scared it will get worse if he knows I've been to the police. Will they tell him? I want to report this violence but I don't want it to get worse.

If you need to report it to the police, you also need to leave him. File a restraining order, a domestic abuse report and find an appartment to move into while you file for divorce. If you want to salvage your marriage, do all the above except filing for divorce and stay away from him until he has completed a counceling program.
If you are concerned about not having proof, I wouldn't worry about it too much. But if you have bruises or scratches that will help. |

Call the police, or go in and talk to an officer at the station, they shouldn't laugh at you if they are at all professional. It is NOT your fault that your husband beats you, he doe not love you, and should should seek anger management. Either way, you need to get out of that relationship. Depending on where you live, there should be many agencies that can help you. If you can, call the United Way (Website I have listed below, try to dial 211) and they should be able to help you with locating many agencies dedicated to helping. Believe me, if you don't leave, it will get worse and he may end up killing you. |

Call the police and they will help you find a battered woman's shelter. Screw the family and friends. Run before he kills you. |

Unless they are completely unprofessional, the police will not laugh at you or accuse you of lying. You need to go to the police department and file a report with them. They will protect you. He does not love you, no matter what anyone tells you... |

I would buy a gun.
Here in Florida if someone threatons you with bodily harm you have legal right to shoot them in self defense.
The police cant always get there fast enough |

No one will laugh at you or say you are lying. They will take a statement and listen to what you have to say.
However, you are the one who will need to testify and make this situation go away. If you truly don't want to be subjected to this kind of lifestyle, then step up and take the necessary steps to help yourself. Your family and friends obviously have a very odd view of what love is.
Personally, as a police officer, I can tell you I have no love for any man who goes hands on with his wife or gf. He needs an adult time out! |

If you file for a temp. restraining order you will have to face him because he has a right to face his accuser. You can also just tell them what is going on and let them take pictures of any marks you may have. They won't do anything in this instance but have it on file for future references. They didn't tell my husband in that instance. The only advice is to wait until he is at work or partying with his friends and then leave. I wouldn't tell anyone where you are going because I promise it will get back to him. You should break the cycle now in case you have kids later. Just a little FYI...most battered women leave and go back on average 7 times before they leave for good. |

First of all, when he is at work pack your things that you absolutey need and get out of there today or tomorrow. Go to a local shelter. After you are out of there go to the police and file a report. If you currently have any bruises or scratches or anything of that nature take pictures. If you've ever been to a hospital because of wounds or injuries caused by this man get a copy of the records.
The police will not laugh at you. They take domestic violence very, very seriously. They will give you some advice. I don't know if they will arrest him unless there is some positive evidence of the abuse such as wounds, bruises, etc. After you go to the police then go to court and file a request for a TRO (temporary restraining order), the after that find a divorce lawyer, file for divorce and get this person out of your life on a permanent basis. Always remember, IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT THAT HE IS HITTING YOU. This man is a sicko and a coward, that is why he is hitting you. GET OUT OF THERE AND DO NOT ASK FOR ADVICE FROM YOUR FAMILY OF FRIENDS, JUST GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Listen to me.
Get out.
At any costs. Find a shelter for battered women and get them to help you.
Protected yourself.
Leave him now.
Please. |

No they can't tell your husband, especailly if you tell them you are afaird he will find out. They will not laugh at you. Spousal abuse is something they take seriously. They will just keep the report on file, so they have something againest him in the future. Like say, next month he beats you up so bad you end up in the hospital, then the cops can believe he really beat you up, because you have reported the problem before.
And honey, your friends are sooooo wrong, an abusive husband does not mean he loves you.
I know it can be scary, but ease yourself out of the situation. There are even organizations and groups for battered women. Ask the police for more info. when you go to make a report. |

Your family and friends sound like flaming idiots. Is it a cultural thing? I pray you're not in the US. Anyone with an attitude like that needs a good *** kicking.
If you're being physically abused, call the police. If you're being mentally abused, call a lawyer. |

IM not sure this story sounds true at all. Not sure anyone who was close to me would have the nerve to tell me he must love me because he's beating me up everyday.
Call the police and file against him. Get a restraining order against him. If you really don't like how your being treated...get him out of your life and keep him out.
The police never take domestic violence as a laughing matter. They can usually depermine who is telling the truth and who is lying just by the way the person tells the story. So..if your story has any truth to it..justice prevails!! |

What the F***!!! He must love you if he is being violent???!!! What country are you living in??? I cannot believe I just read that. well Yes you can go to the police and they should help you because that is their job to serve and protect. the violence has to be documented in order for any action to be done against him.
also it is not your fault what this man is doing to you. There is nothing so horrible that a woman can do to deserve being abused. |

Your "friends" said he must really love you if he's being violent? First you need new friends and second get with it - it is the 21st Century you know. The police do not get too involved in domestic disputes at first. They will, however, instruct you to a safe place. If the officer you talk to does not help then ask to speak to another until you get results. There is help for you, and if you have children, safe.
I am in the industry and there is much help available to you if you are willing to pursue it and take it seriously. If you are not willing to leave your husband then do not waste the police's time going to them or staying at a shelter and taking a bed from someone who could really use it.
It's your life...make the best of it. It is your decision...make the right one. |
