hi. This is what happened when my ex abused me:he was arrested, the Crown Prosecution service decided to prosecute, he pleaded not guilty but was found guilty and sentenced. From the actual incident to the trial where I had to give my statement it took about eleven weeks. And thats one of the best things that ever happened to me. I hope ugh helps. All the best. |

A report to the police will be handled by a dedicated domestic abuse unit once reported they take control of the situation as every case is different no advise can be given to accurately answer your question. The police teams are very professional in their handling of these situations and first contact can be anonymous if you just need information |

When you are a victim of domestic abuse you must report the abuse at the time when it happens by dialling 999 the Police now act without your input as in the past people would out of fear withdraw their complaint and so the offenders went onto abuse again and again.Go to the local police ask to be referred in confidence to the domestic abuse police officer they are very good and will advise you accordingly. Please note in the UK one woman a day dies as a result of domestic abuse so do not sit in silence like me fight back and never be treated like this again ever. |

The police will do an investigation, collecting statements, make documentations, if police find any visable signs of abuse on a victim, due arrest could be made. Local police advise the victim to seek out support through local community agency that deals with domestic violence..a victim can file for a restraining order if necessary. The abuser goes to court, often is ordered to do anger management classes, can be sentenced to jail time. |

Well, they'll arrest the abuser and charge them if the victim wants them to, I believe. I'm not so sure about how long it is before they go to court, though.
Help me?

Since the early '90's, the arrest of the primary aggressor became mandatory. The victim does not need to file charges, the state files. If convicted, you'll never legally own a handgun. |

He/ she will be taken to jail and in 2 days, he/she will have a court hearing. This is basically to decide if he/she should be granted bail. If he/she is given bail then they go home. The bail may restrict him going to where the victim lives. The plea faze may be in about a week after that. That is when he/she has to state if they feel they are guilty or not. Then another court date is set to decide what to do to him. Once the court decides what to do such as jail, or just probation and fines, then that person must do whatever the court tells them. Here in California, it is mandatory for a domestic abuse person to have to take an anger management class. These classes are usually for 1 year, once a week. They cost the guilty person about $30 or more for each class. The fines can run up to over $1,200 too. Usually the person is put on probation for about 3 years. This is all if it is a first offense. |
