What if Caught on Speeding Camera?
Find answers to your legal question.

What if Caught on Speeding Camera?

I think i was caught on a speeding camera today while driving home from the supermarket. I was NOT speeding. I was definitely driving under 40mph. BUT i am not sure if the stretch of road is a 30mph or a 40mph??? It is one long road but the speed changes so many times. I am just not sure!
Anyway, i have never ever been done for speeding or any other driving offence.
But what if i am.!!
Will i lose my driving licence?
And how much is the fine?

I am worrying worrying worrying about it !!!

Thanks
Additional Details
I know i wasn't speeding because other cars were overtaking me...so THEY were speeding!!
I was looking in my rear mirror at the other traffic, so i didn't check my speedo at that instant as i passed the speed camera.
It definitely didn't feel like i was speeding!!.

If you don't know what the speed limit was, how do you know you were not speeding? Do you know what speeding means?

Please think a little harder. You are speeding if you are going over the posted speed limit. So what if others were passing you? That just means they were speeding more, but does not mean you were not speeding.

All you can do is wait and see if you hear about it BUT
I would familiarise yourself with the speed limits and how many times they change so it does not happen again.
Maybe the speed cameras flashed at the other drivers if they were over-taking you?

Kill your speed...not a person!

EDIT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>...

LOOK making yourself ill with stress wont help. But maybe this has been a wake up call for you in that you will watch your speed in future if you think you were speeding.
Shame all car drivers that speed don't have a conscience like you!

It is extremely unlikely for you to lose your license based upon a single basic speeding infraction with no prior 'points' on your license. I'm not aware of anywhere in the United States where that would be a possibility. I haven't heard of anything like that in the UK either. The exact law depends on where you were cited, but again, I can't imagine that being a realistic concern for you.

As you have seen other people here say, it is ultimately up to you to be aware of the speed limit wherever you are driving. Keep in mind that the only thing that matters is YOUR speed; whatever anyone else is doing will have absolutely no bearing on whether or not you can be found guilty. If you are passed by ten cars in a row doing 100 mph, and then you get stopped for going 70 in a 65 zone...you are still speeding. The fact that 'other people did something worse' is not considered an affirmative defense - meaning it does not justify whatever you were doing.

To make a long story short - it seems like you are investing a tremendous amount of worry over something that you don't even know happened yet. You should relax and wait to see if you get a citation in the mail. If you DO get one, you can always come here to ask specific questions about that citation - but again, I can't imagine any realistic scenario where a basic speed violation will jeopardize your driving privelege when you have no points to begin with.

taxed till i die,
£80 fine and 3 points.

Relax it hurts, but isn't fatal!

You get 3 points and like an £60-80 fine depending on how much over the speeding limit you were.. or you can go to a driving class thing instead.. You have to get 12 points to loose your licence.
You are stressing about nothing... really it will all be fine and you will not loose your licence!

Normally its 3 points and a fine of about £30

If you were speeding then you will be given a fine and i think you will be given three points on your license. When you get 12 points then you will lose your liscense.

if you was driving at 32-33 mph in (30) zone you will be ok and nothing will be taken against you.. but if you was doing over 35 mph you will recieve 3 points and a £60 fixed penalty fined...you can do this by post instead of going to court ect..

if you have had your full driving license for over 2 years you are eligable to 12 points before been banned/license revoked

if you have had your license for under 2 years you are eligable for 6 points before been banned/revoked

so if you have no points on ur license at the moment you will be fined and just recieve 3 points and will still have your license..

in my opinion them cameras are just money makers for the goverment they put them in stupid places were arent even needed for safety ect..

i do agree with the speed cameras on big roads and dangerous areas though as it has proven to cut deaths down by quite a big percentage.

Well firstly you should be aware of the limit speed at all times, else you are not driving with proper attention .. now if you were flashed and is is s considered an offence . you will get a letter from traffic control and safety dept, asking you who the driver at the time was .You will get the letter if you are the registered keeper with the DVLA ,. You Must reply to the letter .. Heavy penalty if you don't /// You are then given the option of going to court , or electing for a fixed penalty... Court can fine up to a £1000. Fixed penalty is £60 and 3 points on licence.. Only if you have more points on licence over 12 will you be banned from driving .. You just wait to hear now ,, You might not hear anything .
