What if I don't receive my red light violation ticket by mail ?

I'm a 20 years old cyclist from CANADA who caught a ticket for running a red light in San Clemente, California. The policeman gave me a ticket with no fine on it...saying i will receive something by the mail in a couple of weeks. What If I don't get it ? or don't get it in time ? cause it says : final date March 23 2009. Should I wait and hope they forgot it, or call and remind them about it ?

A letter to Canada might get delayed even if promptly sent to the right address. I assume you both want to obey the law and don't want a warrant issued for your arrest in the U.S. They are not going to forget about it, and telephone calls are not going to do you any good. But you have no worries, because you can handle all of it online at this site:

I don't know whether a US ticket is going to have any effect upon your license or insurance in Canada, but if it would, you can sign up for traffic school online as well, which costs a bit more but will keep it off of any record. I believe that Orange County allows online schools for people who are not Orange County residents (they don't allow it for their own residents). |

I wouldn't worry...They certainly won't come to Canada to arrest you, and even if the date will be past (obviously) before you can get it paid, they will likely process payment and that will be that. I would write on the envelope the date you received it and sign the envelope and send a copy of that back, along with the check...and a brief note explaining that it came late. |

i've heard case where the police had waited 2 yrs to arrest someone for bad checks when the person got arrested they asked why wait 2yrs and they said they had a lot of other cases to catch up on. other than that i don't know. good luck. |
