What is a Black Man that has a criminal record on stealing, assault or doing drugs suppose to do when he or?

The system does make it very difficult for someone to legitimately go straight, but it's not impossible. The whole reason why criminal records interfer with gainful employment is supposed to be an incentive to comply with the law and is supposed to be a deterrent to criminal activity.

However, there are jobs available to people with a criminal record. Most will be labour intensive jobs that involve trades such as construction, but they generally do pay relatively well.

If the person is lucky enough they might be able to receive some training or job skills while in prison. Some prisons have trade schools that teach carpentry, masonry and even mechanic skills.

I suppose it ultimately comes down to what this person wants to get out of life. Nothing comes for free. We ALL have to work at it, adding a criminal record into the mix just means that they have to work even harder.

There are programmes though that cater to people who have criminal records. Because they are difficult to place, the federal government offers grants and tax incentives to businesses to hire them. The best way to go about looking into that is to contact the local state labour board or state unemployment commission.

I can assure you that everything that I have achieved I had to work for. It is never easy. It shouldn't get easier because someone broke the law.

For starters i gues if he was white he would get a job just fine. The race card is dead. There is a black president in office! Get over it....BTW it is not hard to live your life and not go to jail. There are plenty of people who have not broken the law and lived off taxpayers money for years who need to faind a job for their families too. Go cry somewhere else, that story is old.

touching upon raviet31's comment that there are tax incentives for businesses to hire ex cons---they fire a guy who has not broken the law & hire the ex con or they will just ignore the law abiding citizen application & hire an ex con--Usually these ex cons are not work oriented & are unaccustomed to hard work & quit & the companies may hire the law abiding citizen if they cant find another ex con to get a tax break.If you are black that's 2 points the company get 1 for hiring a black to get quotas up & 2 hiring ex con for a tax break or if its a black female they get another point for hiring a black female.Usually these people are usually only marginal employees & quit & go back to jail with no one to blame but themselves--yet they play every card they can except the card of personal responsibility which is the key to success in any endeavor.
Dont say this is not true---i've seen it done time & time again--the poor white kid is left to survive on his own.That's why some people succeed & some don't --- it comes down to personal responsibility-----YOU GOTTA WANNA !!

There are agencies that are involved in programs to get people fresh out of jail into a new job. My city's community center houses all of that kind of information.

I think this is a problem no matter what your ethnicity. My area has created a bridge program to provide training and placement. It is better in the long run if they can be reintegrated into the community and support their own families. I think its a good investment if the programs are well managed. That remains to be seen/
