I have a 12 year old son that they are going to put on a CHIN's petition on the 28th of this month, so i was wondering what it was.

A CHINs Petition is a petition to place a child under the courts jurisdiction/supervision.
CHINs stands for Child in Need of Supervision. In SD, it is an integral part of the Juvenile Justice System.
It deals with such matters as compulsary school attendance on one end to violations of federal, state, or local laws on the other.
Methods range from counseling, rehab and treatment on one end to bootcamp and detention on the other.
In summary, it is a probationary period where the childs behavior is closely monitored/supervised in situations where control is clearly beyond the control of parents. |
