What is a good path to take in joining the FBI?

First thing to do is step back and ask yourself why you want to join the FBI. If you want to investigate kidnappings, bank robberies, or get into the mind of killers, then it is for you. Also, being an officer may help in the military but if you are planning on going LEO after a stint in the Marines, it is not going to do as much for your LEO career as time in grade. You can do your Marine time and then go to school while employed by an agency.
There are a lot of other Federal Law Enforcement agencies to choose from. Pick the one that specializes in something that will hold your interest. You may find that the ATF, DEA or Secret Service better suit you.
Military first will enhance any career in a federal agency. The other bonus is that after some time in the field you may take up a specific interest or network with people in an agency and change your mind. After you knock out 3-4 years in the military most of your education will be paid for. Your time in will also count towards your retirement.
Go get a BA that will most enhance the agency you want to join and go for it.
Another approach is to study Spanish and got to Customs and Border Protection. After you have some time in and have finished more schooling you can transfer to another agency.
I have been with the government for 12 years and if I had to do it over again I would go with Customs and Border Protection fist to get a feel for things and then transfer to the Secret Service after 4 years or so.
Next to the Air Marshals CBP have the best firearms training. That and a BA make it easy to get picked up by another agency.
I turned down a job as an Air Marshall but the decision was based on money. At the time I was at 65k a year and the FAM offered me only 36k to work for them. In hind sight I would go for what makes you happy and not follow the money. Lifeâ€™s to short to not enjoy your work as much as you do your time off.

BTW, every one I know that has worked for the FBI hated it. It looks and sounds great from the outside but when you see it up close you see the flaws.

Trust me study first Criminology is a wicked subject, plus these days going to uni or college makes allot of difference- criminology will help you in the future with other careers etc, you can join the marines or FBI whatever afterwards just remember you join something as big as that your going to be giving alot up, but you'll be gaining some improtant skills up. :P

Naval ROTC for a commission, maybe go SEAL after if youre a monster. Stay way clean re drugs etc, they flutter you. If you want to go straight to FBI, major in prelaw, or IT.

Betray all of your friends and family and lie a lot. You also might want to practice running and hiding in case people decide they have had enough of your betrayal and lies. Pretty much what I am saying is DON'T JOIN THE FBI.
