It depends on the state you live in and what department you want to work for. Here in Wisconsin, you can take the academy at 18, but in order to become certified, you must have either an associates degree or atleast 60 college credits from a 4 year university. Also, from the date you graduate academy, you have 2 years to get hired on a PD. If you do not, you must retake the academy all over again. Also, many police departments require to go through their own academy. You would be best starting college for either a 2 year degree or a 4 year degree, then applying when you are close to graduating. That way the PD will send you to academy, pay for it, and also pay YOU for going to the academy.

in most departments you have to be 21 to be a cop. so I would say out of high school becasue it can take a while to get a job. so 18 would be the best age if you are looking to be a cop. 18 - 40 I would say would be the best ages to go, the older you get the harder i might be to run and things but thats totally up to you and how hard you can push your body.
