My wife will be coming home from work around 1am... I have to work graveyard so I will not be able to help if she gets rob. What is the best way for her to contact the police if she gets rob? Is it also possible for her to speed dial the police and have them track down her cell phone location??? Because if she get rob she will not have time to talk.

YahooAnswers! is the best way to contact the cops. It works every time!
What makes you think she'll get robbed as soon as you leave for work? (You're not plotting against her, are you???)

have you ever heard of 911?

Some areas have a new service where they can trace cell phone calls. 911 is still the best method no matter if it is a cell phone or landlines.

Call 911 and think beautifull thoughts, don't watch so much crime scene TV! Be aware but not paranoid!

Well obviously 9-1-1 works...unless you don't have that in your area. Most cell phone providers now have GPS location software which means they can usually track down where the call is coming from.

Dialing 911 will get you an operator but not a policeman real fast.
My wife worked nights and drove from one state to another every night.
I bought her a small caliber pistol. She certainly felt more at ease with it. The police are not gonna be Johnny on the spot. You better get her some protection. Any policeman will tell you their is nothing wrong with having a personal weapon as long as she has a permit.

Odd, why do you think you wife will be attacked when you leave? You can't trace a location from a cell phone...landlines only...

well, the quickest way is to call 911. And yes, they can track cell phones. All now have GPS in them that is turned on for 911. It is not instant, but they can in fact locate a cell phone calling 911.

If you live in California every cell phone call to 911, at home or not is awn sered by the California Highway Patrol. Once anwnsered by the Highway Patrol they get all the information and they then transfer you to your local police department. You then have to tell your location and situation all over again. If you need to contact the police as quickly as possible you need to call 911 on your home phone which will lead right to your local police department or find out you police department 7 digit emergency line and call that on a cell phone. You can also install an alarm system that you may push the panic button and the alarm company will contact your local police.

911 is the fastest, and ONLY universal number in the US. Federal law has required GPS chips in ALL cell Phones sold in the US for years. It is HIGHLY unlikely any phone still in service does not have such a chip. Even if you has the chip turned off, dialing 911 turns it on. IF the local 911 center has not been upgraded to read cell phone GPS chips, your service provider can read it for them. Even without the GPS chip, the general location can be determined by which cell tower is handling the call. Of course, if she is able to call 911, the first words out of her mouth should be her location.

911 is the best way.

Cell phones CAN be tracked.

Always carry a phone, even if it is dead. All phones, weather working, off, dead, or anything else will send 911 through. I believe it's a law somewhere...
