--i want to become a cop in Illinois
--please explain step by step

==i looked up what a cop would make in the place i live and it said 58,000 first year. suburbs :P

You will need to be 21 to apply.

Get a degree in whatever you want from any accredited school. The department will not care.

Once you have a degree, apply at the department(s) you are interested in. After you get hired, they will send you to the Academy.

The first thing you should do is contact an agency that you would like to work for and speak to a Recruiter. They can tell you what the minimum requirements are for that particular agency. Not all agency's have the same standards or requirements. Make sure you find an agency that is right for you. Take a look at big cities and small cities as well as sheriff's departments, and highway patrol. There are also state police agency's as well as federal agencies that might be of interest to you.
