Depends upon the investigation and the consequences of the lie.
In my jurisdiction, a typical false statement in a regular investigation would result in a citation of False Reporting or False Information During Investigation. Fines of up to $1000.

It's called " obstruction of justice" and depending on the what the investigation is for you could go to prison, although you told the truth eventually during the interview you could still be charged. |
