What is the sentence given for Actual Bodily Harm against a police officer?

It's down the the Court. If it being tried in a Magistrates Court, the maximum sentence will be 6 months, if it's Crown Court then it's 5 years. The law has changed now in relation to previous convictions, and it is now easy for a Court (and a jury if a Crown Court) to be made aware of someones previous convictions and 'evidence of bad character'. If he's guilty, all being well he'll go away for a stretch, he deserves it.

As harsh a penalty as possible in the real world. I don't go to work to be assaulted in the course of my duty and anyone that thinks they have the right to assault anyone deserves to be going down for a stretch.

However, with the current climate and 'justice' system, he will probably get a community punishment order.

If in the UK, you can get away with MURDER it seems !
So if the criminal were to assult a Bobby, the Bobby would probably loose his job for provoking the criminal into assulting him lol
Joking aside, if anyone assulted a Bobby they should recieve the sternest punishment possible....e.g double what you would get if a criminal assulted ordinary member of the public. The Police protect us, look after us and are hero's, just like firemen, medical and millitary ! And before anyone says anything, you have bad people in any employment, bad elements from every walk of life!

Not enough; he'd probably get a pathetic "community service" sentence; not bother doing it, and then go and beat some other poor copper up. And then be the first to complain when he got burgled and the police "took ages turning up".

Was the Officer hurt ? and your Past along with the local sentencing law of that state where ever you are will determine the sentence.

At least a year, then length of term in relation to what the "actual bodily harm was", I expect "broom handle" and "vaseline" are two words that wil feature heavily in your future

To my mind not enough, But wait, you will probably get one of these lenient judges we have in abundance,
What about a trip to Spain to recuperate,or probation,at a Butlins camp.from what we see it is highly possible in the UK.

Apparently, if you're a cute young girl, you can get away with 3 yrs. probation and you can spend your 3 yrs violating that probation and not getting charged with violating it.
If you're an ugly old fart, then you're probably going up the river for a while.

knowing the unfairness of the law by putting cops above the citizen you could get a lot of time for nearly nothing. with a history of this kind of behaviour well your going down a long time.

depending on the officer it could be to much sentence some of them need a a@@ kicking. a few do not.

for most cops today they are given to much authority well you know the answer to that problem.

so if you are in the USA you are destine to spend time in the grey bar hotel. with lots of the police( gestapo) to look after you every discomfort and pain. if you don't have enough of these they will see to it you do.

i used to visit the USA until i notices the US had become true and proper police state with loads of heavily armed Gestapo wandering around on helmets bullet proof vest. machine guns , dressed in black with balaclavas at hand. this sure sounds and looks a lot like the gestapo i once saw in action.

i once went up to a US policeman to ask him how to find our hotel. he put his hand on his gun and asked for ID . we showed him our passports told him we are tourists. he questioned us for 15 Min's before he went away.

i guess they are all scared of is Scots.
