I have seen 3 stories on the front page of Yahoo! about a football player who ran a red light, and the police are apologizing for the officer who gave him a ticket. I don't understand why he can commit a crime, but I cannot. If I see the sense in this, I will copy exactly what he did. I will go to the hospital, run as many red lights as I can, and the police will make sure I don't get stopped. Is there more to the story? When I read the comments, people say that the police are strict. I can't even believe that. Did the police used to just ignore everything? Is there any police force that sends you to jail, then decides if you did the crime or not?
Additional Details
The football player stalled himself, when he was asked for insurance he did nothing. If he really cares, why didn't the player get all of the paperwork, take the ticket, and go to the ER?

Nothing is wrong with the police forces.
That officer was being a jack*** on a power trip. He was told by both hospital staff AND a fellow officer that the guy is NOT lying, his MIL really IS dying inside. Instead of letting the guy get off with a warning, he dragged the process out as much as possible, almost as if trying to push the guy's buttons.
Police are not robots. They are supposed to enforce the law, but they are there to PROTECT AND SERVE, not to mess with the people. This officer stepped over the line, enough said.
