What is your opinion of the Ryan Moats incident?

The officer should have used common sense. Man runs a red light and goes into the hospital parking lot. I would figure that he had an emergency situation in his vehicle or something is happening to someone he knows in the hospital. I mean it's not like he ran the red light and drove into a Burger King parking lot. I also felt that lecturing an already agitated couple was unnecessary. Some compassion would have gone a long way here.

To the person who gave me the thumbs down. I hope you never have to deal with the pain of losing a parent or an in law.

Powell absolutely needs to lose his job.. What he did to the Moats family was low down and dirty. If Powell was doing his job correctly, he should have been able to think critically, use discretion and good judgment. He is simply a young kid that let authority go to his ego. This wasn't about keeping himself or the public safe, this was about abuse of power and over inflating ones ego. Society doesn't need people with no common sense( like Powell) serving and protecting us.

They ran the red light they are at fault... Think he could tell race at Midnight in a dark vechile? Nope big football player thought he was above the law. If you or I ran the light guess what would happen? Same thing. All he had to do was STOP at the red light , that's what red means.
The mother in law was out at Midnight why? Wasn't she in an accident? Or were they just waiting untill the last minute? Always let people know you love them, the goodbye was for them . They always let celebritys get away with everything. Bottom line Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

The officer did nothing wrong other than make a comment about screwing a guy over but, that could mean anything. The man ran a red light putting other drivers and themselves in danger. Yes, the mother dying is a sad thing. What is even more tragic is if running that red light killed a young family of four. Yes it is possible and happens everyday in this country.

Could the cop have handled the situation better? Yes. However, they are human and make mistakes and bad decisions. Always have and always will.

Should he be fired? Based on what I read not only no but, he** no. If anything he should be commended for possibly saving lives that day.

Unfortunately, because the story made the news and the person involved is a famous football player the officer may indeed be fired or at least suspended unjustly. Most of today's departments refuse to stand by their officers whether they did anything wrong or not. Just once, I would like to see a major department spokesperson say our officer was absolutely correct and we support them 100% in the highly publicize cases.

Romare: if you have some proof that the situation would have been handle differently if Moat's was white I would love to see it. Maybe you know this officer personally and know for a fact he is a racist. No? didn't think so. It is people like you why we still have racial problems today.

Why is it every time you hear of a cop making a mistake or using bad judgement the first thing people want to do is fire the officer and ruin there lives? If we fired every officer for making a bad decision we would have no police officers. In fact if we fired everyone who ever made a mistake on the job we would have a 100% unemployment rate.

That people think the officer was wrong even though he really wasn't. Look at what happened:
Guy runs red light, police officer tries to pull him over. Moats doesn't stop, goes up until the hospital.. by then the officer doesn't know what to think except what he's used to: somebody has something to hide.
Officer tries to detain him, draws his gun because heck- who wouldn't if they didn't pull over for you (remember he had no idea who this was or what they were doing, and since they had already broken the law he did not have reason to trust what they said).
Then on top of that, when the officer tells Moats to give him his license, Moats keeps complaining about being detained! He doesn't even give it to him at first! Come on, that is not the officer's fault. Understandable Moats is upset, but that doesn't mean he is exempt from the law. And while the officer could have been more understanding, he was directly in line with his job.
What should have happened: Moats should have pulled over immediately, I know a cop who has given escorts to people as long as they pull over right away. Moats should have been respectful to the officer, he really wasn't and that didn't help at all. Moats should have done what the officer said oh my gosh, when a police officer tells you to give him your license you do it! What makes him think that he didn't have to give his license to the officer for some reason? You can't blame the officer for that.
I think the officer COULD have been nicer, however he also didn't do anything wrong. I think it was a misunderstanding, but if anything.. Moats brought it upon himself.
