It’s a barbaric practice that should have been abandoned in ancient timess. The death penalty does not redress wrongs; it merely substitutes justice with revenge, because there is a mistaken notion in this world that justice and revenge are synonymous. The truth is justice is more than just retaliation for a wrongdoing. Justice, in its highest form, endeavors to reform the individual. Killing that person does not work to redeem them.
Ultimately the death penalty works against the basic rational premises of justice, and treats law emotively, where emotions have no place. The death penalty does not right a wrong; it just exacerbates a wrong by duplicating murderous actions. |

Very bad. People need to suffer in jail for the crimes they commit. Death is the easy way out. |

it's barbaric, hostile, and cruel... it is disgusting and it annoys me. If people really want criminals to SUFFER then let them suffer... lethal injection is not painful since they inject painkillers into you... electric chair hurts for 1-2 minutes then you are dead... life in prison... now THAT's suffering... |

why sit on death row for 20 or so years while tax payers pay for stay in a boxed cell with no freedom makes no sense to me |

our justice is imperfect and manmade, so i don't believe that should be an option.
there are crimes so heinous that it seems a good response, but the capacity for error is always there. the death penalty encourages us to ignore that... i think it should be the central point of any discussion of justice. the punishment must always be secondary to truth. |

i think that they should put in a express lane and stop wasting tax payers dollars on trying to overturn the conviction if you are guilty just let it happen |

Disagree with it. I was for it until I read the story of Tim McVeigh. I changed my opinion because I realized it is more of a punishment to keep them locked up. Death is tooo easy a way out. |

Just be sure you'd want the same penalty if you qualified for it. |

Well I am British and I wish they would bring it back here. |

that it should be used more than what it is. If they get a life sentence then make use of the death penalty. Why pay for their food and other expenses for the rest of their lives. If the death penalty was used more often then maybe the crime rate will start to go down |

It makes so sense for a country who's lwas are based on Chhristian religious belifs ( 10 commandments) to implement the death penalty, its completely hypocritical. " Turn the other cheek wouldnt exaclty work either" there is a line between justice and vengeance. This penalty cosses it. Not only that but Death Row inmates spend so much time on death row that they are very expensive to maintain so many people. If they cannot be reinstated into society they belong in a white padded room with no windows, if thats not the case, rehabilitate them and get them out into making a contribution to society. ( killers and rapists would belong in an asylum as well because there is no way they are sane to do what they do.) |

I believe in the death penalty, but 2 wrongs doesn't make a right. The courts need to be absolutely sure that the person is guilty and deserving of the death pentalty!!! I don't agree with who ever pushes the button should put the person to death. The person who got the death penalty never done anything against the person who is pushing the button and to me that is murder!!! If anybody should push the button....it should be a family member of the victim and not someone they hire to do it. I also don't agree with keeping a person on death row for years before he is executed. When I'm arrested...I'm suppose to go to court in a timely fashion, and the same should be for those on death row. |
