What should happen to the caught illegal immigrants crossing the border?

If it's against the law for them to be in the country, why would you let them stay?

The problem will only be solved when you go after the employers. But then, the employer has to have a way to validate citizenship / residency. Otherwise, they'll be gunshy about hiring anyone who looks or sounds foreign.

Meanwhile, rumour has it employers lean on their congress-critter who pressure INS and so nothing happens there anyway.

BTW - if you can somehow eventually earn citizenship by being in the country illegally, but not if you obeyed the law, then (a) it's AMNESTY, no matter what the politicians call it, and (b) what message are you sending every other person who's thinking of jumping the fence into the USA?

If the job or pay is so bad that a legal citizen doesn't want it, then what does that tell you about the job or the pay? Someone's getting rich off it, and it ain't the Latino.

I don't think anything should happen to them. People should be able to go freely where ever they choose, especially for a good cause. People fail to realize that the reason they try to escape here, is because of the horrible living situations they have in Mexico. Tell me which one of you would not pack up and flee to another country if that was the only way your family would survive. Who are we to deny them that right?

Mexico should buy them airplane tickets to the southern-most part of mexico. Mexico should have an open ticket and an airplane standing by to take their citizens home, at their expense, plus 20k/instance paid to the US to cover incarceration costs/food/lodging/transportation etc. I think Mexico would have that fence up in about 3 days LOL
