I mean with all the real crimes that are commited and ignored everyday they want to waste tax dollars on a trespassing trail I would say pay for a good lawyer and get it dropped it's a misdemeanor it's off his record in a year but still they have no real crimes in Chicago?

Get a chicago based attorney to go to the court and try to plead it down to a parking ticket and pay the fine. It is the only thing I can think of. He may have to go back.

He should be able to make arrangements to do the hearing over the phone but he will have to arrange it ahead of time. Call the courthouse, the judge will have to approve it.

Get an attorney, and see if it can be handled without him going back. He may be able to plea it out without going back. It is a minor offense, and if he has nothing prior, I wouldn't be surprised if the charges were dropped, but depends on the situation. But, do something, don't ignore it. Otherwise, if he misses court dates, he'll end up with a warrant, and granted they most likely won't extradite him back to IL over that, but those minor offense warrants can haunt you for a long time.

well if he does nto go back to his trial he could get arrested and could get months in jail or he may get a warrent for his arrest and even if it was a minor offence he still could get introuble for not going but your could call the court and ask is they could try and figure out a way to get the trial to be somewhere close to were you live that way your son won't have to travel a long way

My son got a trespassing ticket in NY for getting his pickup stuck in a farmer's field.

If you let it go - they will put out a warrant and it will catch up to him.

The best thing you can do is call the court, talk to the court clerk, tell them he's out of state, ask what your options are, chances are you can just mail in a fine and do community service.

Don't ignore the court though.

I think my son (he was early 20's at the time I think) had to pay a fine and do community service, and when he moved to PA the Court let him do his community service there. Of course, there are idiot judges out there, but there are some nice ones..so start off by calling the court clerk and tell them you are now out of state and can you plea by mail or over phone or what the procedure is.
Be very very nice and patient on the phone. Bite your tongue whenever you have to. Go out of your way to be nice. Even if they're not.

P.S. if you can't afford an attorney, a public defender should be assigned to you - this should be offered in your first court appearance. The public defender can represent you if you are out of state and do the negotiations, however not sure how this works if you haven't got one yet and you're out of state.

just get a lawyer to represent him, may cost several hundred bucks but I can assure you as a former Illinois resident, they don't mess around. They will issue a warrant and anytime he has contact with police it will be an issue. Trouble like that will give him problems finding a job in the future! If it is minor trouble, keep it minor and fix it right so it doesn't haunt him for years to come.

You need to call the court clerk and just ask if there is a fine to send in? If he misses it and has a warrant out for his arrest then he will be in more trouble. Call, if he can not go back soon then ask to get it post poned until you can find legal counsel.

I'm telling you he has to go back to Chicago. If not he will have a warrant out for his arrest. If he can not make it back to Chicago you need to call up to the court house and talk to someone about the situation and what you should do.

Courts take it very seriously. get in touch or he will be a fugitive for years and for nothing.

it may have been a minor offense-but if its not taken care of then it can turn into a major warrant--
i ahve been thru this with my husband--
get it taken care of--
if it turns into a warrant then it will probably cost out the butt to get it taken care of..
call the court in Chicago and see what his options are..

He must go back, a warrant will be issued against him for not appearing in court and he will be arrested (even for a minor offence), sooner or later. He trespassed, let him plead guilty and get it over with because otherwise there will always be this cloud hanging over him.

find a way to get the money, and make the punk go back to deal with his problem he made. if not he will have a warrent out for his arrest, and it will get him ten times worse later on in life. you sound like you don't care too much that he did this.
