What should you do if your car is stolen?
|
Your paid for vehicle is stolen, so you report it stolen, the police find it and take it to city impound lot and report and notify you that your car has been found, CASE CLOSED. You goes to impound lot and find your car striped you becomes ill and abandon the car. The car is then sold at auction in many cases to the person that has the parts to fix the your car in other words the thief. New title is issued on the spot. Next day car is resold on some used car lot. Is Organized crime involved, well for some reason your police chief looks the other way . Happens about 25,000 times a year in large cities

You decided to abandon your car and you are blaming the fact that it was sold to pay for tow/storage fees on organized crime? What would the chief of police have to do with this?
Most of the car thieves in my area steal cars to ride around in them and use them to do crimes in. They don't steal them with the intention of buying them from the tow company so that they can fix them up, that's just silly.
I think you are seeing conspiracies that don't exist, sorry.
The answer to your question? I wouldn't just leave the car there and forget about it, that's what insurance if for. |

The answers to this question are the reason I am glad I do not have children. These attitudes toward crime are destroying the country and while I can sympathize with some law enforcement officers as they watch the criminals on the street before they can finish their paperwork. Non the less the official attitude of the city officials where I live supports car theft which is rampant here and getting worse due in part to a refusal of the local police to take a stolen car report by phone. To file a report we must take paperwork to the police station (which here is 5 miles away) before the report will even be accepted. No timely effort will be made to recover the car until it is much too late for there to be any success. What is found if the vehicle is old is nothing but a shell. They even steal the hood hinges. Officer just what do you think your buddies recovered yet they claim they solved a crime.
For you (lacking in intelligence) that say have insurance just who do you think the insurance companies are? However if you happen to be a person that does not want to participate in the disposable polluting society, if you keep a car and maintain it at considerable effort choosing to keep something that you like, those of you (lacking in intellectual capacity) who wish to waist all resources of the earth you will have increasing difficulty living on; the insurance companies that you (unable to learn from history) tout as a wonderful answer for all things, will not even come close reimbursing the actual loss. |

So what is your question exactly?
You should report it to the police and your insurance companies immediately. If your car has been stripped, you should report that too. You might get compensation on the purchase of a new car that way - or a rental, at the very least. |

To answer what you should do in this case is to file a police report and have good insurance (expensive unfortunately).
The scenario you describe is somewhat inaccurate. Auto theft is a huge problem in the country that could easily be managed as car manufacturers can design a car that is almost impossible to steal. They obviously do not want this as sales would drop drastically.
Organized large groups of people do get involved in auto theft but it is not your large scale typical groups you may be thinking of. These groups generally will sell the cars outright, ship them out of the country, but some do strip them down. Keep in mind that when they strip a car they generally do not send the parts to a mechanic to be placed on a previously stolen car that is being rebuilt. These parts many times have serial numbers and are easily traced on a rebuilt car which could lead to an arrest. Also a if you car was completely stripped it gets a salvage title and is not sold as your typical used car.
Unfortunately the problem is not the police chief or officers. Officers routinely arrest people for auto theft over and over and watch them get out the next day to start over. Officers are no longer allow to chase stolen cars as well.
The problem is the justice system, car manufacturers, corrupt business owners and mechanics that buy parts, citizen that buy these stolen parts, and a society that allows this to occur.
Good luck |

I wonder where you get the statistic that the same person that strips the car is the one who buys it at auction. How is it that 25,000 car theives hang around with the parts laying around in the garage then go to a police auction once a year to by the car? Who would take the risk at holding on to all the stolen parts?
The parts are stripped to be sold to a fence.
I hate stories made up of statistics pulled out of thin air. I'm not saying that YOU made up these numbers. I don't doubt you read this or someone told you this, but the details of the story just don't make logical sense. |

The answer is simple: insurance. If your car is worth anything, you would be carrying Comprehensive coverage, which covers fire, theft, vandalism, etc. When the car is stolen, your Comprehensive coverage will cover the car, or the amount of damage done to the car after it is found. You would get paid a settlement in most cases, and could take your settlement money from the insurance carrier and buy a new car, similar to the one you had. I don't feel sorry for people who don't have insurance. |

Didn't you state that you abandoned the car? If you decide not to recover the car out of the impound lot why shouldn't the police sell it? Why would the police just hold on to it forever and not sell it, eating the cost it takes to store it? If you have auto insurance they will pay for the cost of the car that is stolen, and if not that is the risk you take... |
